Wistariahurst Museum to welcome Boston String Quartet on June 18

HOLYOKE The Boston String Quartet will be performing at Holyoke's Wistariahurst Museum on June 18, featuring a new program of classical, jazz, Latin and Middle Eastern selections. Many of the pieces on the program have been commissioned by the Boston String Quartet, and are the result of long-standing collabor-ations between the group and several international composers.

Since its formation 2004, the Boston String Quartet has been a creative leader in contemporary classical music in New England. Following a professional debut at Weil Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, the quartet has performed classical chamber music, rock, jazz, world music and more, and is continually "exploring different ways of sparking musical interest," according to the Boston Globe.

To date, the Boston String Quartet has released four albums, including "Xibus" (a genre-stretching tour-de-force from one of the finest young touring string quartets in the United States, according to PARMA), a new release from Navona Recordings. The Boston String Quartet can be heard over the radio or may be found performing on local television stations, as well as nationally on PBS. Recordings may be purchased worldwide from Naxos.

The performance will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for $15 at the door. Wistariahurst Museum is located at 238 Cabot St. in Holyoke.
