Dream destination weddings

Jan. 2, 2013 |

By Don & Maureen Anderson Owners of the Cruise Store One of the hottest trends in our industry these days is destination weddings. While the traditional wedding with all the trappings will never lose popularity or fall out of favor, more and more couples are looking at this as an alternative. When you consider the average cost of a wedding these days, a destination wedding can be a bargain and is more affordable than you may think. Many properties offer discounts or special rates for wedding groups, and most resorts offer an on-site wedding planner that will take care of all the details for you. Once you have settled on a location for your wedding, you will be put in touch with the planner who will then be with you every step of the way. They will make sure the proper legal paperwork is done, arrange for the venue, flowers, food, entertainment, etc. How nice would that be to have all that stress taken off of you? You can have a small intimate wedding with just the two of you, or a cast of hundreds. Don't assume everyone you invite will be able to attend. Vacation time and budget constraints will deter casual acquaintances from attending, so chances are that only your close friends and family will be with you. Your typical wedding is a hurried one day affair, with much of your time at the reception spent trying to be sure to talk to every guest, sometimes neglecting those closest to you. With a destination wedding, you will be able to spend a few days of quality time with your family and friends to bond, relax, and most importantly, have fun. And isn't that what you want from your wedding? Plan early so that everyone will have more time to schedule their vacation days and budget for the trip. Usually, the earlier you book your trip, the better the prices will be for both the flights and hotel. Be realistic – – don't pick a destination that is so expensive it will break the bank for your guests. Consider off-season September to November to help keep costs in line. Give us enough time to find that perfect location for you and your guests. Have you ever dreamed about a being married barefoot on a Caribbean beach with the turquoise water as your backdrop – in an Irish castle – atop a cliff on the Amalfi coast – standing beside a waterfall in Hawaii – aboard a sailboat at sunset – on a cruise ship? Give us a call or stop in and let our destination experts help you plan that perfect wedding. The Cruise Store is at 55 Maple St., East Longmeadow.
