This week's article was written by our agent, Cindy Storozuk, who recently had the opportunity to sail to Bermuda on the newly refurbished Celebrity Summit.
I started my trip on the Entertainment Tours bus from Springfield to Bayonne NJ, a convenient way to get to the pier without the hassle of driving. After a quick check-in, I was on board the ship by 12:30pm with plenty of time to explore the ship before sail away.
There are plenty of food options at the Ocean View Café on deck 10, with breakfast and lunch buffets from 6:30am 3:00pm. They also have a sushi bar/stir-fry from 5:30pm-9:30pm, and home-made pizza from noon -1:00am. The Mast Grill is
poolside with grilled specialties; Aqua Spa Café serves light and healthy breakfast and lunch; the newly added Bistro on Five is a Creperie, and well worth the $5.00 cover charge. If you are looking for something different, try one of the specialty restaurants Normandie is contemporary and French inspired, while Qsine is quite a fun and unique experience.
Cosmopolitan, the main dining room on the ship, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the menu changing daily.
The refurbishment involved a redo of the public areas and cabins, which were updated with new carpets, upholstery and furnishings. One of the new additions is the Cellar Masters wine bar. Purchase wine by the glass, or try an Enomatic machine which dispenses glasses in 1 oz, 2.5 oz or 5-oz portions (the latter being a typical restaurant pour-one-fifth of a bottle); a 5-oz pour starts around $8.
Our two days of sailing to Bermuda were full of activities including, bingo, karaoke, a world wine tour, fitness and dance classes, ship tours, pool activities, etc. If you want a deck chair near the pool, get up there early in the morning on sea days as those chairs fill up fast.
The ship docks at the Royal Dockyard. A complimentary tram operates from the ship and makes five stops around the pier at the ferry and bus terminal; the shopping mall; the pharmacy; rum cake factory and glass works; and the dolphin swim. All are within walking distance, but the tram is convenient for those with trouble walking. Ferry and bus passes can be purchased as soon as you disembark the ship, and scooter and moped rentals are also available.
