Award recipients were selected based on their strong record of volunteerism and service to non-profit organizations both in bank-sponsored volunteer projects and in the broader community. An awards luncheon was held in Pittsfield at Berkshire Bank Headquarters where the recipients received their awards from Executive Vice President and CFO Kevin Riley. Each award winner also received a $500 donation that will be made to the nonprofit organization of their choice.
One of the Volunteer of the Year recipients is from the Pioneer Valley: Tammy Bordeaux is the branch manager of Berkshire Bank's East Longmeadow Branch.
She volunteers as a scholarship reader for the Berkshire Bank Foundation Scholarship program, participates in the Relay for Life, Rotary Club Concert, and helped with landscaping at Shriners Hospital.
Tammy Bordeaux, branch manager of Berkshire Bank's East Longmeadow Branch, received the company's 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award.
In addition she is actively involved with the Rotary, Dictionary Project, Five Town Chamber of Commerce, Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, and work at the Somers Congregational Church.
Peter J. Lafayette, Berkshire Bank Foundation executive director said, "The Volunteer of the Year Awards are an important part of the employee volunteer program at Berkshire Bank, which encourages volunteerism and community service at all levels of the organization. These awards were established to recognize employees who went above and beyond by donating their time, talents, and skills to help out in their communities. The winners represent the best of Berkshire Bank employees"
The bank's employee volunteer program was established in 2008 to help the bank and employees give back to the communities in which they live or do business.
In 2009, 50 percent of the bank's 650 employees donated 12,000 service hours to reach 16,000 community members with support. Recently completed projects include a company-wide food drive in the fall, a company-wide care package drive for our troops stationed abroad this spring, work at the Historic Allen House in Pittsfield and several other projects in the bank's service area.
