HBRA-WM honors scholarship winners at ceremony

SPRINGFIELD — The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Western Massachusetts (HBRA-WM) will host their annual scholarship awards ceremony on June 9 at the Home Builders & Remodelers Association in Springfield to formally recognize the achievements of nine Member Scholarship Program recipients, two Vocational Scholarship recipients and four Vocational Scholarship/Tool Acquisition Award recipients. To have been eligible for the $1,000 HBRA-WM Member Scholarship Program, the applicant had to be affiliated with a member or the employee of a member company. The association also awarded area trade and vocational high school students' $500.00 cash scholarships or tool acquisition awards to further their careers in the building industry. The association issued a request to each of the 14 schools in their service area of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties to recommend an exemplary student to receive one of these awards. The association offered vocational school students the option to receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. Any vocational student in the 14 area trade schools could apply and compete for this scholarship. Since the inception of these programs, the association has awarded $316,500 to deserving students. The 15 individuals selected as the 2011 HBRA-WM scholarship recipients include: Ann Bergeron, daughter of Barbara and Jeffrey Bergeron of West Springfield, who attends the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Patrick Brosnan, son of Elizabeth Brosnan of Sturbridge, who attended Tantasqua Regional Vocational High School; Anna Carlson, daughter of Arva and David Carlson of Wilbraham, who attends Gordon College; Colin Clegg, son of Sheila and John Clegg of South Hadley, who attended Chicopee Comprehensive High School — Career and Technical Education Center; Hailey Cox, daughter of Patricia and Matthew Cox of South Hadley, who will attend Fordham University; Gianna DiClementi, daughter of Karen and Mauro DiClementi of West Springfield, who will attend Holyoke Community College; Anthony Falcetti, son of Marie and Glenn Falcetti of Southwick, who attended Lower Pioneer Valley Career and Technical Education Center; Hector Lebron, son of Mayra Lebron of Belchertown, who will attend Springfield Technical Community College; Nancy Mangels, daughter of Brenda and Andy Mangels of Amherst, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh, Ryan Morrie, son of Susan and David Morrie of Feeding Hills, who attends Tufts University; Jeffrey Nelson, son of Martha Nelson of Oakham, who will attend Springfield Technical Community College; Shannon Reardon, daughter of Cynthia and David Reardon of Feeding Hills, who will attend Northeastern University; Megan Roy, daughter of Lynn and Stephan Roy of Shrewsbury, who attends the University of Miami; Jeffrey Sawyer, son of Maureen Sawyer of Granby, who will attend Springfield Technical Community College; Susan Skaza, daughter of Lorene and Sydney Skaza of Ludlow, who will attend Wheaton College. The association applauds the achievements of these individuals and wishes them well in their future endeavors.
