HOLYOKE – The Dowd Agencies, a leading insurance provider serving New England for more than 115 years, is pleased to welcome Timothy Sterritt, as accounting controller at its Holyoke office.

Sterritt will play a key leadership role as a member of the senior management team, participating in and directing the agency planning process. He is responsible for planning, establishing, leading, controlling and maintaining systems and procedures to provide timely and adequate financial reporting and controls.
“Tim is an accomplished financial professional and brings more than 20 years of experience to the Dowd Agencies,” Robert Gilbert Jr., president of The Dowd Agencies, said. “We are confident in his abilities to understand the department and overall agency mission, business objectives and development needs.”
Sterritt said, “I am genuinely excited to join The Dowd Agencies, where I can leverage the insurance, financial and operational core competencies developed throughout my career in the financial industry.”
Sterritt, a Longmeadow resident, is a certified public accountant, certified financial planner, and Chartered Life underwriter. He also maintains membership in the American Institute of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
He comes to Dowd from Longmeadow-based Medvest LLC, where he was a financial manager for the start-up franchisor of urgent care centers throughout New England. In addition, Sterritt brings experience to Dowd from his lengthy tenure at Hartford, Connecticut-based Travelers Insurance Company.
Among Sterritt’s areas of expertise are financial planning, insurance operations, auditing, planning and analysis, program management, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
