The third annual event will take place at the MassMutual Center on Feb. 28, 2012. More than 400 women are expected to attend the event which is designed to empower women with the information, education and awareness needed to help reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with registration followed by educational breakout sessions, a silent auction, inspiring Western Massachusetts female survivor stories and educational keynote speaker, Ginger Zimmerman. She is a heart transplant survivor and motivational speaker.
“Too few people realize heart disease is the number one killer of women claiming the lives of 460,000 women each year, more than all forms of cancer and the next five leading causes of death combined,” Ebert said. “But what they also don’t realize is despite being the leading cause of death heart disease is mostly preventable through education and research. With the information provided through this luncheon, women will have a better understanding of how they can take an active role in their personal health to prevent heart disease and improve their health.”
LaRue said, “The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement challenges women to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It plays a leading role in providing women with the tools they need to lead heart-healthy lives. This is a great opportunity for the women of western Massachusetts to hear from survivors and professionals and then take what they learn and share it with others in our community.”
Since its inception in 2004, more than 1.2 million women have signed up for the Go Red For Women Movement and statistics show that 96 percent of women registered achieved at least one health behavior change. Some of these include:
