BOSTON – Rhode Island-based lifestyle brand Alex and Ani has created an exclusive expandable wire bangle to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic partnership between the Boston Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund in supporting adult and pediatric cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.|
The eco-friendly expandable bangle, available in the company's Russian Silver and Russian Gold finishes, features a charm that depicts a young boy at bat, which is the 60th anniversary logo that adorns the "Green Monster" at Fenway Park, to commemorate the team's unique collaboration with Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. Each bangle is accompanied by a meaning card that highlights the Red Sox and Jimmy Fund's 60th anniversary and is marked with three descriptive words: Legacy | Teamwork | Dedication.
The bangle is available for $28 in Alex and Ani retail stores across the country and online at www.alexandani.com. Twenty percent percent of the proceeds from the sale of the bangle will go directly to the Jimmy Fund.
"We are thrilled to celebrate 60 years of partnership with the Red Sox this year and having this unique bangle commemorate this milestone makes 2013 even more special," Suzanne Fountain, director of the Jimmy Fund, said. "We're honored that our friends at Alex and Ani have captured the essence of our collaboration with the Red Sox in this lovely piece designed to support the Jimmy Fund."
The bangle is a part of the Charity by Design program at Alex and Ani, which is based in the greater Providence, RI area. Charity by Design's sole mission is to give back to the community as it partners with numerous charitable organizations to create customized symbolic charms that capture the essence of a charity, making it more accessible to the public while raising awareness and funds.
"Our eyes lit up when we saw the artwork for the Jimmy Fund's commemorative piece," Nicki Castonguay-Maher, vice president of Charity by Design, Alex and Ani, said. "The design perfectly aligns with Alex and Ani's brand as it is all about celebrating community, powerful family bonds and unique milestones. We feel especially attached to our friends at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund, as our friendships with the staff members and shared commitment to the program are special pieces of this successful partnership.
Charity by Design is proud to collaborate with such an empowering organization to create, change and inspire hope in the community."
The Red Sox adopted the Jimmy Fund as its official charity in 1953, and since then, the two organizations have established a deep bond – unlike any other between a professional sports team and a charity.
The Red Sox have teamed with the Jimmy Fund to save lives, seek cures, and dramatically change the quality of life for adults and children facing cancer in New England and around the world.
