Blood drive to honor Campbell
Craig Anthony Campbell
WILBRAHAM — On Jan. 10, family and friends of Craig Anthony Campbell will host the seventh annual American Red Cross blood drive in his memory at St. Cecilia's Church, 42 Main St.
Drive hours are noon to 6 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will have priority. For an appointment, please call 1-800-922-4376 or, up to one day before the drive, go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 2646. A positive ID is required to donate. All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free pound of coffee, courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts. Campbell loved to ski and in his memory, his family is donating a pair of lift tickets to Jiminy Peak. All presenting blood donors will be entered into a drawing to win the tickets.
Campbell's family has held a blood drive in his memory every year since his passing in 2004. In the six years Campbell's drive has been held, 491 pints of blood have been collected. This year we hope to be on the way to collecting 600 pints in Campbell's memory.
Though all blood types are needed, there is currently a critical need for type O negative blood. Type O negative is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations. The Red Cross asks those eligible donors with blood type O negative to make an appointment to donate.
Please join us to honor Craig Anthony Campbell at the American Red Cross blood drive at St. Cecilia's Church in Wilbraham on Jan. 10 from noon to 6 pm.
Most healthy individuals who are at least 17 years of age — 16 with signed Red Cross parental consent form — and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood. Individuals 18 years of age or younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
