GREATER SPRINGFIELD — At an induction ceremony on May 22 in New York City, Dr. Balaji Padmanaban Athreya was recognized by the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) board of directors as a Fellow of the American Society of Hypertension (FASH) for excellence in research and for clinical contributions to the field of hypertension. Athreya is a physician partner at Pioneer Valley Nephrology located in Springfield and Holyoke, and serving patients throughout Western and Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut.
The FASH designation is bestowed upon individuals who have excelled in and led the efforts for high blood pressure control among their patient population. The ASH Fellow designation is conferred annually on those applicants who have distinguished themselves through excellence in their professional scientific and clinical achievements, scholarship, and significant contributions to the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health.
ASH is the largest organization of hypertension researchers and health care providers in the United States committed to eliminating hypertension and its consequence. ASH has a domestic and international membership of basic science and clinical investigators, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and pharmacists, as well as individuals with a scientific interest in hypertension.
Athreya was the only Western Massachusetts physician among the 36 individuals who were inducted as ASH fellows on May 22.
