Gov. Patrick announces new stimulus funding for medical workforce training |

BOSTON Building on the Patrick-Murray Administration's continued efforts to equip Massachusetts workers with 21st century economy skills, Gov. Deval Patrick announced last week a $1.2 million federal stimulus award to eight workforce training partnership programs across the commonwealth.
Each of the programs awarded partners with educational institutions to provide practical application for classroom learning, and ensure that participants are able to master the skills they need to compete in today's workforce.
The governor, joined by Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Secretary Joanne Goldstein and other state and local officials, recently made the announcement at St. Mary's Women and Children's Center in Dorchester one of the programs receiving funding.
Locally, Baystate Medical Center in Springfield was awarded over $167,000 to train and place incumbent workers and unemployed community residents in patient care technician positions using the new employer-developed acute care certified nurse assistant curriculum.
"I want to congratulate St. Mary's and each of the programs receiving funding today for helping us do the important job of putting people back to work," Patrick said. "In difficult economic times, we are more committed than ever to equipping people with the skills they need to re-enter the workforce, and you are a vital part of that effort."
"I applaud the St. Mary's Women and Children's Center on their dedicated efforts to provide the necessary support and skills that enable women to succeed in the workforce and achieve economic sustainability for themselves and their families. The Women at Work Plus program exemplifies the hard work that is needed to assist these valuable members of our communities and I congratulate you on this award," State Rep. Cheryl A. Coakley-Rivera, House chair of the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, said.
