Grape Chase Road Race set to take place at Big E on April 26
WEST SPRINGFIELD – Eastern States Exposition (ESE) and Table & Vine have partnered to present the second annual 5K Grape Chase Road Race April 26 on the grounds of ESE.
The event takes place in conjunction with the Taste of Table & Vine, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Young Building.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the West Springfield Parish Cupboard, the West Springfield Partnership for Education and The Big E Farm to Table Education, which samples and showcases New England food products to 1.4 million fairgoers and encourages and supports buying locally produced foods.
The race kicks off with runners at 11 am followed by walkers of all ages. Participation is $25 in advance (by April 18) and $30 on the day of the event. A combination advance ticket that includes the race and the evening wine tasting is available for $60 to those pre-registered over the age of 21. The first 700 people who pre-register will receive a free T-shirt, free parking and a pint glass. All participants will receive a free beverage (soda or beer, ID required) following the race.
Registration is online only at www.grape.racewire.com and the course is USATF certified. The race course is within the Exposition’s 175-acre grounds and begins and ends at the Food Court.
Pre-registered runners and walkers may pick up their packets at Table & Vine, 1119 Riverdale St., April 24 and 25 from noon to 8 pm. Packets must be picked up in advance to take advantage of the free parking offer.
The race will culminate with music, refreshments and prizes to the top male and female finishers as follows: First place, $300; Second place, $200; and Third place, $100. All entrants may compete for a $50 prize for Best Costume. Medals will also be awarded to the top three finishers in seven age categories with the top racer receiving a gift card from either Big Y or Table & Vine.
Saturday evening’s festivities continue with “A Taste of Table & Vine,” in the Exposition’s Young Building from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring 400 wines, 100 select craft beers, 50 spirits, gourmet foods and a Connoisseur’s Room with select wines, spirits and delicacies. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Connoisseurs’ Room tickets are $75 and include the full event. Parking for the evening wine event is free on the Exposition grounds.
