|SPRINGFIELD Get vaccinated! Pregnant women and others at risk should get H1N1 flu shots as soon as they are available.|
Vaccine is available to Springfield's priority group of pregnant women only, who have not received the immunization on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Shriner's Hospital, 516 Carew St. The clinic is on a walk-in basis for pregnant women. Participants receive a vaccine information statement, consent and insurance information form. All individuals will be screened for vaccine eligibility.
This is a free vaccination.
If appropriate, consult with your obstetrician prior to arrival. Please wear a short sleeve garment for ease of vaccine administration.
According to Health and Human Services Director Helen R. Caulton-Harris, "the virus continues to be very active in our community."
H1N1 flu is spread mostly from person to person through the coughs and sneezes of people who are sick with influenza. People may also get sick by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
