Kids' Dentist offering free exams for tots under two

WEST SPRINGFIELD There are many things which parents may be uncertain about or simply might not know when it comes to the oral hygiene of their young children.
Now, however, all those visits to the dentists will pay off, since Dr. Robert Matthews of The Kids' Dentist at 232 Park St. is offering, as a special thanks to parents, a complimentary examination for children age two and under with a highly experienced and well-trained hygienist who will discuss "proper eating habits, the possible need for fluoride supplements and age-appropriate oral hygiene techniques," according to a press release from The Kids' Dentist's office.
Mary-Lynn Shibley, a registered dental hygienist and staff member at The Kids' Dentist, said that they are trying to educate parents who are unaware of certain important aspects of oral hygiene habits for their children ages two and under.
"We are finding that many children this age are coming in with cavities," Shibley said. Their intentions are to help avoid cavities in the children, and to educate the parents on fluoride and oral hygiene. Shibley added, "Pediatricians don't have the time to educate parents on oral hygiene."
Matthews and his staff understand that a child's first visit to the dentist can be very scary and intimidating. When young new patients enter the waiting room at The Kids' Dentist, however, educational activities, a big screen TV and a bright design welcome them. Each treatment room holds a specific theme and creative artwork, along with LCD screens playing the latest Disney and PIXAR movies. A child also receives a certificate and a free gift at the end of his or her visit.
Matthews encourages parents to bring in their little ones to The Kids' Dentist, and to take advantage of a free check-up and a chance to learn about their children's oral health.
