Kyle's Ride for suicide prevention to rev up on Oct. 2

GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- A fundraising motorcycle ride from Southampton to West Springfield and dinner to benefit The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will take place on Oct. 2 Registration begins at 9 a.m.
The ride starts at approximately 10 a.m. at the Harley Davidson Store of Southampton, Mass., Routes 10 and 202 and ends at approximately 3 p.m. at The Elks Lodge, Morgan Road, West Springfield.
Donation: passengers and riders: $15 each. Non-riders: $20 0each. Children under age 10 are free.
There will be raffles, music and great food. The ride will go on, rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the food, raffles and music will continue to take place as scheduled at 3 p.m.
Kyle lost his battle with depression and his cousin, Cheryl Kondrat, along with his mother, Sharon Enko and her husband James Szacruk, began this ride in honor of his memory. Anyone who has been affected by this or a similar tragedy should attend. Anyone who thinks they will never be affected by suicide should attend. The funds raised will be used to continue to foster the mission of AFSP to prevent tragedies from happening to other families in our area.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
This year, more than 35,000 people will die from a reported suicide and there will be more than a million serious attempts. We must recognize mental illness just like any other illness and understand that with proper treatment, we can save lives.
