Reported flu activity in region lower than normal |
|
GREATER SPRINGFIELD The Center for Disease Control's weekly newsletter during the last week of December reported a pattern of high seasonal flu activity in the Southeastern United States especially the states of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi and in Puerto Rico.
All other regions of the United States are currently reporting lower than normal flu activity for this time of year.
If you are planning to travel to any of these areas, it is recommended that you receive a flu shot at least two weeks before your departure.
The town of Longmeadow has an ample supply of flu vaccine in inventory for adult travelers to this region or for any other individuals eighteen years of age or older who have not yet been immunized this season.
If you wish to receive a flu shot, kindly contact Patricia Barkman, R.N., town nurse, at 565-4154 for an appointment.
The shot is free for Medicare B subscribers and for subscribers of most health insurance plans issued in Massachusetts who are under age 65.
The fee for individuals who do not have this coverage is $10.
