St. Cecilia’s to host blood drive in memory of Katie DaSilva |

WILBRAHAM The American Red Cross is hosting a special blood drive in loving memory of Katie DaSilva on July 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main St.
In 2001, at the age of 7, DaSilva was diagnosed with liver cancer. During her illness, she received several transfusions of blood and blood products. Despite a successful liver transplant, her cancer returned, and she passed away in 2002 at the age of 8.
Because blood donors gave DaSilva and her family the precious gift of more time together, the DaSilvas want to help ensure blood is available for patients when they need it. They want Katie’s legacy to help provide another birthday, another dance, another laugh, another hug, and another chance for patients and their families.
In its ninth year, Katie’s drive has become an anticipated annual event in Wilbraham, to date more than 1,000 units of blood have been collected in her memory.
To make an appointment to donate blood at this drive, or for more information about donating blood, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org.
All presenting donors at a Red Cross blood drive during the month of July will receive a coupon for a free carton of Friendly’s ice cream. Prizes are not redeemable for cash and non-transferable.
