Two forums will address women's health |

BOSTON The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts will host two forums dealing with women's health issues in March, in Framingham and Hadley.
The forums, "Women's Health in the 21st Century: What We Need to Know," are free and open to the public.
"At a time when health care is a crucial issue in our state and nation, the league feels it is important to look specifically at some of the health issues pertaining to women," Marcia Hirshberg, president of the Massachusetts League, said.
The Framingham forum will take place on March 5 in McPherson Hall in the Medical Arts Building of the Metrowest Medical Center, 85 Lincoln St., with a snow date of March 26. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the presentations run through noon, followed by a health fair.
Judy Norsigian, executive director of Our Bodies Ourselves, is the keynote speaker for the Framingham forum, addressing the impact of media on women's health.
Also speaking will be Cheryl Hamlin, M.D., on disparities in access and treatment and Georgia Sassen, Ph.D., on mental health issues for women.
The Hadley forum will take place on March 12 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 98 North Maple St., with a snow date of April 2. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the presentations run through 12:30 p.m., followed by a health fair.
State Rep. Ellen Story will introduce the speakers, who will all be available for discussion sessions at the end of the program.
Speakers at the Hadley forum are Katherine Reeves, Ph.D., on why we should talk about women's health, Elizabeth Bertone-Johnson, ScD, on vitamin D and women's health, and Erin Snook, Ph.D.., on the impact of physical activity on women's health.
Additional speakers include Arlene Ash, Ph.D., on comparative effective research, J. Mary Sorrell on the needs and disparities in care in lesbian and transgender health and Joan Ditzion, M.S..W., of Our Bodies Ourselves on women growing older.
