With Safe and Well Web site, families can connect during an emergency situation

SPRINGFIELD — The American Red Cross has a great resource to assist people affected by disasters who are trying to let others know how they are doing.

Red Cross Safe and Well Web site is a secure, easy-to-use online tool to help families connect in an emergency.

People can register by visiting www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

The site can also be used to call a family member or friend who has Internet access.

To register, people should visit www.redcross.org and click on the “Safe and Well” link.

There are two options once a person is on the site: click on the “List Yourself as Safe and Well” or “Search for friends and family” link.

People in the affected areas can list themselves as “safe and well” on the site by using a pre-disaster phone number or complete address.

Disaster victims can also update their Facebook and Twitter status through the Safe and Well Web site.
