Yaffe, Fuller complete Eden at Home certification

Aug. 14, 2013
WEST SPRINGFIELD – Judy Yaffe, co-owner of Homewatch CareGivers and Kathy Fuller, licensed social worker, completed an intensive three-day Eden at Home certification program.

Eden at Home is a model for elder-specific care, with emphasis placed on improving the life of a person with/without dementia and assisting the many care partners that touch the elder’s life. The program focuses on being highly interactive with activities and communication that keep the elder in their home longer, and most importantly helps decrease loneliness, helplessness and boredom by keeping the elder engaged.

A certified Eden at Home associate serves as a change agent, prepared to help infuse person-directed care practices into the daily operations of Homewatch CareGivers elder/family and staff. Person-directed care states that all decisions belong in the hands of the person receiving the care and/or in the hands of those closest to him/her.

Person-centered care is an approach that provides care through the eyes of the person receiving care; it is person specific.

An integral part of this process is education. Eden at Home Associates are certified to provide workshops, and educational techniques to staff, elders, their family members, and the general public.

Homewatch CareGivers’ mission and goals encompass the philosophy of improving the quality of life for elders and their families by supporting a warm and supportive environment in the client’s home. By combining the Homewatch CareGivers mission and the mission of Eden at Home, Homewatch CareGivers of West Springfield has the advantage of being the first to utilize this approach of this program in the field of home care in the Pioneer Valley.
