HAMPDEN " Yoga for the Young and the Young at Heart will take place at the Hampden Public Library, Town House Auditorium, 625 Main St., on April 4 at 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by Heartsong Yoga and the Friends of the Hampden Public Library, this free event is the first of the month long program, One Book, One Community, Hampden Reads! , during which the Hampden Library hopes to bring autism awareness to the community of Hampden.
According to the Autism Society of America, autism is the fastest growing developmental disability and a staggering statistic of one child in 150 is diagnosed with this condition.
In her book, Yoga for Children with Autism, author Stacey Betts, who is also the parent of an autistic child, says that yoga reduces stress and anxiety and increases balance and strength in autistic children.
Come to this introductory level class which is designed for everyone, ages five to 99, and experience the calm, strength and sense of clarity that comes with yoga movements. There is no registration and the program is free and open to the public. For information, call the library at 566-3047.
