SPRINGFIELD The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Superstars bounds into the MassMutual Center on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. for the "Road to WrestleMania" tour.
Reminder Publications had the opportunity to speak with Ryback, one of the up and coming talents. He'll have his first WrestleMania match when he faces off against Mark Henry.
"It's going to be the biggest night of my career," Ryback said, adding that he's not nervous but excited about WrestleMania on April 7. Ryback explained that while Henry is known as "The World's Strongest Man," he brings "a different sort of energy into the ring."
He continued, "I'm not just strong, I'm explosive and have speed. I'm all hard work, seeking to constantly better myself."
When asked who he'd "Shell Shock" Ryback's signature move if he could choose any Superstar past or present, he answered, "There's not just one person; there's nobody I'd single out. I'm going to Shell Shock everybody all of them are going to get it."
Ryback explained that while he lives his life "one day at a time, one match at a time," he would eventually like to become WWE Champion and/or World Champion. That is why he views every other Superstar as an opponent.
A self-proclaimed "mental madmen," Ryback stated that when dealing with him, the opponents "better bring their A-game because he's going to chew them up and spit them out."
Ryback, like this reporter, is a life-long WWE fan. At age 12, he was the guest bell ringer at a live event. His earliest WrestleMania memory was when he attended the event at age 5, where Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant squared off.
"All I remember are yellow trunks and a black singlet," he said.
He attributes the success of the past year to the WWE fan base. "Without the WWE Universe if I didn't have fans there'd be no Ryback," he noted. "I make it a priority to meet the fans. I'm usually one of the last ones to leave a venue. I take the time to shake each person's hand."
During the interview, Ryback apologized for the hoarseness of his voice that was due to him yelling his trademark chant "Feed Me More" along with the fans in the audience.
According to the Online World of Wrestling, Ryback, born Ryan Reeves, first emerged in the WWE as a contestant on the fourth season of Tough Enough in 2005.
After stints in developmental factions Deep South Wrestling, Ohio Valley Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling, he reappeared in 2010 on WWE NXT under the moniker Skip Sheffield.
Sheffield soon joined Nexus, a rookie group of NXT competitors bent on tormenting the Raw roster of talent. After suffering an injury, Reeves debuted as Ryback in early 2012. Ryback plowed through one Superstar after another in 2012 and his momentum keeps growing. What's in store for him this year? "An even bigger 2013," he said.
