Westfield Athenaeum summer reading group hosts Martin Henley
June 19, 2013
WESTFIELD – Dig into the Westfield Athenaeum's Adult Summer Reading program on June 24 at 6:30 p.m. as they present Martin Henley: Scoundrels Who Made America Great.|
Henley will help us unearth the secrets of Iva Toguri who was called "Tokyo Rose." She was convicted of treason but she was innocent. Listen to Henley as he digs into the facts that led to her conviction and then uncovers the real truths that led to her regaining her freedom.
Henley is a retired Westfield State University professor and the author of four educational books on at risk youths. He is currently working on his first historical narrative nonfiction titled "Scoundrels Who Made America Great." He has selected a central event in each "scoundrel's" life to illustrate how events can merge in such a way as to create a scoundrel and a hero in one and the same person.
Featured in his book are "Tokyo Rose," Benedict Arnold, Clarence Gideon, Wernher von Braun, Anne Hutchinson and John Brown.

The doors will open at 5 p.m. to allow the opportunity to register for the Adult Summer Reading program. The talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a raffle prize drawn at the end of the program.
The Adult Summer Reading program is made possible by The Friends of the Westfield Athenaeum.
