EAST LONGMEADOW
40TH ANNIVERSARY MEMBERSHIP TEA
Sept. 24, noon, Fellowship Hall in E.L. Congregational Church. Coffee will be available. Bring refreshments by last name: M - Z, finger sandwiches; A - L, finger desserts. Bring your favorite cup and saucer, luncheon plate and special spoon. Marcella Maki is the East Longmeadow Garden Club 2009 Scholarship recipient. She will share her summer experiences in Costa Rica.

COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION
Commodities will be distributed to E.L. residents on Aug. 19 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. If you have not already done so, come fill out paperwork in the office and pick up your ticket. No commodities will be given without a ticket, and paperwork must be completed prior to Aug. 19.

SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will have their Summer Reunion on Aug. 20 at the Pleasant View Senior Center. Luncheon is hamburgers, baked beans and potato salad. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for reservations.

BINGO PARTY!
The Pleasant View Senior Center at 328 North Main St. is hosting a bingo party on Aug. 25 beginning at 1 p.m. Cost is $5, which includes up to five bingo cards, refreshments and prizes. Register by Aug. 21, as seating is limited. Payment required at time of registration.

OVER THE TOP BALLROOM DANCERS
The "Over the Top" Ballroom Dancers will be performing Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. This award winning group is made up of local school age dancers who perform regularly at hospitals and nursing homes. This event is free and open to the public. Come early for a special lunch. Call the Senior Center to reserve your seats at 525-5436.

BOOK CLUB
The Book Club will resume its monthly meetings beginning Sept. 29 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. The selected book for summer reading is "World Without End" by Ken Follett. We welcome new members at any time!

CREATIVE WRITING COURSE
For all with an unfulfilled interest in writing as well as those who have been writing "forever," Adventures in Writing offers a relaxed, writer-friendly opportunity to experiment. Facilitated by Donna Bailey-Thompson, an experienced writing coach, first six-week session begins Sept. 10 and meets Thursdays from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. There is a fee. This is a way to develop, enliven and sharpen your own style. Enrollment limited; early sign-up is recommended.

REGISTRATIONS STILL OPEN

WINTER COMPETITIVE SWIM
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is beginning registrations for its winter competitive swim program. Those ages 6 - 18 are eligible. Swimmers must be able to complete 25 yards freestyle to participate. Swim test will be given first night of practice; practices are Mon. - Thurs. evenings. Season will begin around Oct. 5. Come into Office 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon. - Fri. to register. EXERCISE PROGRAMS
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is beginning registrations for its fall exercise programs womens aerobics, M/W, 6 - 7 p.m., Sept. 9 and T/TH, 5 - 6 p.m. and 6 - 7 p.m., Sept. 10; strength training, W, 5 - 6 p.m., Sept. 9; and yoga, TH, 7 - 8 p.m., Sept. 10. All classes run for 10 weeks. Those 18 and older are eligible to attend. New, updated medical profiles will be required, even though a registrant has been in previous classes. HAMPDEN
Hampden Seniors to Tour
An exciting fall bus trip trip is planned for Oct. 2, to Gloucester, Mass. The bus will leave the Hampden Senior Center, 104 Allen St., at 9 a.m. A lunch at the Goucester House Restaurant on 7 Seas Wharf, a tour of Hammond Castle, deluxe coach transportation and driver's tip all for $61. FYI: the castle being a very old historic Medieval/Renaissance museum built in the late 1920s has no elevators and is not handicapped friendly. Payment deadline is Aug. 28. STORRS PERFORMANCE

There will be a meeting of the Longmeadow School Committee Finanacial Sub-Committee on Aug. 26. at 4:30 p.m. in the School Committee Room, 127 Grassy Gutter Rd.

CAR WASH
Bring your car down to Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) , 1148 Converse St., for a car wash on Aug. 30 from 9:30 a.m. - noon. A wash for a single car will be $6, large vans and SUVS $10 and a $4 charge for wheel detail. There will be free bagels with cream cheese and coffee for anyone who gets their car washed. Reynolds Pool's last day open to the public will be Aug. 23, Greenwood Pool and Splash Pad will remain open until Aug. 30.

FIDELCO GUIDE DOG PRESENTATION
The Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., has rescheduled the Fidelco presentation to Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. Linda Gilley of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation will share info on the raising and training of these dogs and will bring one of the dogs, Prairie, with her for demo and socialization purposes. Fidelco is the only guide dog school in New England, and they are dedicated to promoting independence in blind men and women. Call 565-4150 to register.

INTRO TO NORDIC WALKING
Jack Fila, certified Nordic Walking instructor, will present a free seminar discussing the many health benefits of Nordic Walking, and demonstrate the technique at the Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. Learn why walking with poles has become a popular activity. AUDITIONS FOR "URINETOWN"
The Bay Path College Performing Arts Dept. will host auditions for "Urinetown: The Musical" Sept. 7 - 9 from 7 - 10 p.m. in Mills Theatre, Carr Hall on the Longmeadow campus, 588 Longmeadow St. Actors, singers and dancers age 16 and over are needed for roles and should be prepared to sing, move and scene read. TAEKWONDO DEMO
Join us on Sept. 12 at the Storrs Library for a special interactive demo sponsored by Master Han's Olympic Taekwondo. This program reinforces important values and safety for both home and school and encourages students to get along with each other and to try their best everyday. Students will be introduced to important social skills aimed at conflict resolution, bullying and getting along with others. From 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., kids from kindergarten and above are invited to become a part of learning about stranger danger and resolving conflicts with others. Your children will enjoy the fast paced program, role-plays, discussion and handouts. TENNIS
Be sure to visit www.LPRD.net or the Parks & Rec. office for a full listing of all of our tennis lessons this summer. Lessons run in two-week sessions throughout the summer and encompass ages 4 - adult. Keep in mind that when tennis courts are not being used for organized Parks & Rec. play, they are open and free to all Longmeadow residents. Private tennis instructors must have a paid permit to use the courts for lessons. Call Mary at 565-4166 to make arrangements for this permit, prior to teaching a lesson. BUS TRIPS
Gina Daniele presents a trip on Sept. 12 for the St. Gennaro Feast or shopping in NYC, a trip on Sept. 13 to see the Yankees take on the Orioles in their new stadium in the Bronx, and a trip on Sept. 19 and 20 to see Niagara Falls, visit a casino and do some shopping. CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
The Our Lady of Grace Society will be hosting a Centennial Celebration of the founding of its society on Sept. 6. The festivities will begin with a Mass to be officiated by Bishop Timothy A. BOOK SINGING AND READING
