EAST LONGMEADOW Longtime Planning Board member Michael Przybylowicz recently announced his resignation, leaving a hole to be filled on the five-member panel.
Przybylowicz cited new career opportunities that required him to leave the area as his reason for resigning. His resignation will be effective July 26.
“Dunkin Brands has offered me a position in Florida, which I have accepted. As per the terms of my new position, I need to be in my new market as of Aug. 1,” the letter read.
Przybylowicz was first elected to the board in 2000 and was in the midst of a term that was scheduled to expire in April 2015.
“I truly have enjoyed my tenure and would like to thank all of the town’s people, all the different boards and all town employees, all the present and past Planning Board members and as well as the Planning Department staff,” he said. “A special thank you to [Planning Director] Robyn [Macdonald] for her support and guidance over the years.”
Macdonald, who called Przybylowicz a “level headed, fair member” of the board, said he would be moving to northern Florida to take on his new responsibilities.
The Planning Board will address the vacancy left by Przybylowicz in short order with a short-term appointment and is currently accepting applications for the position.
“The person appointed would serve on the board until April 2014,” Macdonald explained. “After that, there will be an election for those interested in serving the remaining year of his term.”
Those interested in the short-term appointment should send a letter of interest and resume to Macdonald at the Planning Department office at Town Hall by July 31.
“The Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board will appoint someone from that list of candidates with the Planning Board having the majority vote,” Macdonald said. “We’re looking to have the meeting to address this and make an appointment on Aug. 27.”
