SPRINGFIELD Kirk Smith, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Springfield, Dr. Richard Flynn, president of Springfield College, and John Doleva, president and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, gathered last week at the Dunbar Y Family & Community Center to announce the installation of two new glass backboards in the gym donated by Springfield College and the Hall of Fame.
Flynn said the donation of the professional-style backboards gave the college the opportunity to "do something good for the kids, do something good for the neighborhood and to do something of the 100th birthday of Dunbar."
Smith said the gift was a "tremendous show of generosity," while Doleva said the Hall worked with Spalding to "get the best" for Dunbar.
