RAYS OF HOPE FUNDRAISER
A&E Styles, 2 N. Main St., will be hosting their second annual Rays of Hope fundraiser on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. They will be doing haircuts and makeup applications for a donation of $20 and manicures for a $10 donation. FLU SHOT CLINIC
On Oct. 7 from 1 - 4 p.m. Maxim Health Systems will be at East Village Assisted Living and Memory Care Community to administer the flu shot and the pneumonia shot to any community members interested in receiving them. The shots are covered by Medicare Part B and some third party insurance providers. Cash payment is also accepted. Costs are $30 for the flu shot and $45 for the pneumonia shot. CHESS CLUB
A chess club for adults will begin Oct. 7 at the E.L. Public Library. Adults interested in learning and playing chess are invited to join. This club will meet every Wed. morning from 10 a.m. - noon, through December. All are welcome. The Chess Club will meet in the library's Community Room. WONDERS OF LAVENDER
The E.L. Garden Club will meet Oct. 22 at noon in the Congregational Church Meeting Room. The program will be "Wonders of Lavender!" Anyone from the general public is invited to join us in this presentation. Members are encouraged to bring a guest.
WINTER BASKETBALL
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is accepting registrations for its winter basketball program for residents only. Leagues are intown (first - H.S.); CYO (grades 3 - 8) and suburban (grades 5 - 8). Fees range, depending upon league. This program is for boys and girls. Evaluations will be in October. Register at the Rec. Dept., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon. - Fri.
OPEN HOUSE
The annual fire dept. open house will be Oct. 3 from noon - 3 p.m. The public is invited to come and learn about fire safety. October is National Fire Safety Month and during the open house, families will learn about fire prevention and participate in fire safety activities. There will be many demos and station tours. This event allows us to reach out to the community and arm local families with fire safety tips and procedures. Papa Gino will provide free pizzas and children's fire safety coloring sheets. CHOLESTEROL/GLUCOSE TESTING
Life Lab of Mercy Hospital will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., on Sept. 30 beginning at 8 a.m. to do blood work. A 12-hour fast is necessary for the tests. Charge is $12/lipid panel, $5 additional for fasting glucose. Call 525-5436 for an appt.

If you are a licensed nurse and interested in volunteering for the annual flu clinic, taking place this fall at the Pleasant View Senior Center, come in to fill out an application. LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE
Get moving and have some fun as the cold weather approaches! Neil and Cindy Hawley of the Redstone Squares will be giving square dance lessons at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., on Sunday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m., beginning Sept. 27 through May. Classes are $6 per lesson, no pre-registration needed, just come on in and have some fun! Oct. 4 will be a free class.
BASEBALL EVALUATIONS

Dept./Baseball Assoc. reminds players/parents that the baseball evaluations for those who are in 7th/8th grade and wish to play spring 2010 baseball to report to Veterans Field on Oct. 1 at 4:45 p.m. with last name A - M and 6 p.m. with last name N - Z. Bring glove, water bottle and wear cleats. Bats will be provided, but you may bring your own.

The E.L. Rec. Dept reminds residents that the Bergeron/Maurer Co-Ed Basketball Clinic will take place at ELHS on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1 from 7 - 8:45 p.m. for those presently in grades 5 - 8. Registration in the Office is preferred; however, you may register at the door, as long as proper paperwork/monies are submitted to coaches upon arrival.
BOWLING REMINDER
The E.L. Rec. Dept./Shaker Bowl afterschool bowling program for Mt. View and Mapleshade schools begins Sept. 28 from 2:45 - 5 p.m. at Shaker Bowl. Fee is $11/week, payable to the bowling alley weekly. Registration forms are available at the schools and the Rec. Dept. Bus will pick up students at school and transfer to Shaker Bowl. There will be a public forum on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Glenbrook Middle School auditorium, regarding a Special Town Meeting warrant article. Select Board will be seeking public input on the question of public employees working scheduled shifts of greater than 14 hours per day. All employees of the town of Longmeadow would fall under the auspices of this proposal: DPW employees, Park Dept. employees, firefighters, EMS/Ambulance Service; clerical employees, police and teachers.
