ZITI AND MEATBALL DINNER

CAN DRIVE AND CAR WASH

RAYS OF HOPE FUNDRAISER
A&E Styles, 2 N. Main St., will be hosting their second annual Rays of Hope fundraiser on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. They will be doing haircuts and makeup applications for a donation of $20 and manicures for a $10 donation. There will also be raffles for prizes donated by local businesses. All funds raised will go to Rays of Hope. For inquiries contact A&E at 525-3466.

FLU SHOT CLINIC
On Oct. 7 from 1 - 4 p.m. Maxim Health Systems will be at East Village Assisted Living and Memory Care Community to administer the flu shot and the pneumonia shot to any community members interested in receiving them. The shots are covered by Medicare Part B and some third party insurance providers. Cash payment is also accepted. Costs are $30 for the flu shot and $45 for the pneumonia shot. CHESS CLUB
A chess club for adults will begin Oct. 7 at the E.L. Public Library. Adults interested in learning and playing chess are invited to join. This club will meet every Wed. morning from 10 a.m. - noon, through December. All are welcome. The Chess Club will meet in the library's Community Room. WONDERS OF LAVENDER
The E.L. Garden Club will meet Oct. 22 at noon in the Congregational Church Meeting Room. The program will be "Wonders of Lavender!" Anyone from the general public is invited to join us in this presentation. Members are encouraged to bring a guest.

WINTER BASKETBALL
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is accepting registrations for its winter basketball program for residents only. Leagues are intown (first - H.S.); CYO (grades 3 - 8) and suburban (grades 5 - 8). Fees range, depending upon league. This program is for boys and girls. Evaluations will be in October. Register at the Rec. Dept., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon. - Fri.

OPEN HOUSE
The annual fire dept. open house will be Oct. 3 from noon - 3 p.m. The public is invited to come and learn about fire safety. October is National Fire Safety Month and during the open house, families will learn about fire prevention and participate in fire safety activities. There will be many demos and station tours. This event allows us to reach out to the community and arm local families with fire safety tips and procedures. Papa Gino will provide free pizzas and children's fire safety coloring sheets. CHOLESTEROL/GLUCOSE TESTING
Life Lab of Mercy Hospital will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., on Sept. 30 beginning at 8 a.m. to do blood work. A 12-hour fast is necessary for the tests. Charge is $12/lipid panel, $5 additional for fasting glucose. Call 525-5436 for an appt.

FLU CLINIC VOLUNTEERS
If you are a licensed nurse and interested in volunteering for the annual flu clinic, taking place this fall at the Pleasant View Senior Center, come in to fill out an application. You will need to leave a copy of your current nursing license and be approved by the medical director. Call Lissa Fontaine, R.N. with any questions at 525-5436.

JOHN DEE PRESENTATION
On Sept. 30 at 1 p.m., John Dee from Wealth Preservation Group will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center to speak about protecting your assets from long term care costs even without long term care insurance. Call 525-5436 to register.

LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE
Get moving and have some fun as the cold weather approaches! Neil and Cindy Hawley of the Redstone Squares will be giving square dance lessons at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., on Sunday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m., beginning Sept. 27 through May. Classes are $6 per lesson, no pre-registration needed, just come on in and have some fun! Oct. 4 will be a free class.

BASEBALL EVALUATIONS
The E.L. Rec. Dept./Baseball Assoc. reminds players/parents that the baseball evaluations for those who are in 7th/8th grade and wish to play spring 2010 baseball to report to Veterans Field on Oct. 1 at 4:45 p.m. with last name A - M and 6 p.m. with last name N - Z. Bring glove, water bottle and wear cleats. Bats will be provided, but you may bring your own.

BASKETBALL CLINIC
The E.L. Rec. Dept reminds residents that the Bergeron/Maurer Co-Ed Basketball Clinic will take place at ELHS on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1 from 7 - 8:45 p.m. for those presently in grades 5 - 8. Registration in the Office is preferred; however, you may register at the door, as long as proper paperwork/monies are submitted to coaches upon arrival.

BOWLING REMINDER
The E.L. Rec. Dept./Shaker Bowl afterschool bowling program for Mt. View and Mapleshade schools begins Sept. 28 from 2:45 - 5 p.m. at Shaker Bowl. Fee is $11/week, payable to the bowling alley weekly. Registration forms are available at the schools and the Rec. Dept. Bus will pick up students at school and transfer to Shaker Bowl. FALCONS HOCKEY TICKETS
The E.L. Rec. Dept. will again have discounted Falcons hockey tickets for this season at $11/pp, with $1 from each ticket being donated back to the Rec. Dept. by the Falcons. Come into the Rec. Dept. Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to purchase.

SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will be entertained by The Gold Tones on Oct. 1 at 12:30 p.m. following noon luncheon (hot roast beef sandwich w/gravy, parmesan potatoes, carrots and pears). Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for reservations.

LEARN TO PLAY PITCH

On Oct. 1, Hampden Hearing Center will present info about hearing loss at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St. Doctor of Audiology Susan Bankoski Chunyk will discuss how to identify hearing loss, the effects of hearing loss on the quality of life and various ways to improve communication. There will be a free "Pack Your Bag" medication consultation at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. A local CVS pharmacist will conduct a 15-min. presentation, "Understanding High Blood Pressure," followed by one-on-one medication consultations to review your prescription and non-prescription medications. BUS TRIP TO MOHEGAN SUN CASINO

LONGMEADOW
PUBLIC FORUM
There will be a public forum on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Glenbrook Middle School auditorium, regarding a Special Town Meeting warrant article. Select Board will be seeking public input on the question of public employees working scheduled shifts of greater than 14 hours per day. All employees of the town of Longmeadow would fall under the auspices of this proposal: DPW employees, Park Dept. employees, firefighters, EMS/Ambulance Service; clerical employees, police and teachers.

SCHOOL BLDG. COMMITTEE MEETING
The School Building Committee meeting that is scheduled for Sept. 30 will begin at 6 p.m. in the Longmeadow High School cafeteria, 95 Grassy Gutter Rd.

ZUMBA OPEN HOUSE
Donna Gendron, certified Zumba instructor, will host a free open house to introduce this new, feel-good aerobic exercise program at the Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., on Oct. 14 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Zumba fuses Latin dance rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness workout. GREENWOOD READERS
The Longmeadow Adult Center's Book Club, the Greenwood Readers, meets on the first Tues. of each month. The selection for October is "The Given Day: A Novel" by Dennis Lehane. PAJAMA STORYTIME
Cuddle up with a favorite blanket, a teddy and a good book on Oct. 6 at the Storrs Library. ART WORKSHOP
The Storrs Library will host a "Let's Gogh Art Workshop" for children ages 4 and above on Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. - noon. Tara Kilroy, the creative director of this art enrichment program, will present this unique and popular story/art class. FOOD PANTRY OPENING
The Longmeadow Adult Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Longmeadow Food Pantry. With the downturn in the economy and rise in unemployment, the need for a food distribution program in Longmeadow has become apparent. The pantry will be housed in the Adult Center at 231 Maple Rd., and is open to all Longmeadow residents in need. For further info contact the Adult Center at 565-4150.

2009 NUTCRACKER PERFORMANCE
Ages 7 and up. Registration forms and a $60 registration fee must be submitted to the Community House office by Oct. 2. CONNECTICUT RIVER CLEANUP
Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club and Pioneer Valley Yacht Club invite you to join us for the 13th annual Connecticut River Cleanup on Oct. 3 at Pioneer Valley Yacht Club, 200 Anthony Rd., from 8:30 a.m. - approx. 12:30 p.m. Wear footwear that can get wet and clothes that can get dirty. A TASTE OF JUDAISM

Aron Goldman, director of the Springfield Institute, will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting on Oct. 2. His topic will be "Big ideas + regular residents = urban transformation." According to Goldman "the dissolution of the Control Board, ward representation and an election season make this a critical moment for Springfield. Will this be a return to pothole politics, parochialism or worse?" ADAMS CEMETERY TOUR
The Atheneum Society of Wilbraham, in lieu of its usual open house, will host a historic tour of Adams Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Adams Cemetery, Tinkham Road. The Wilbraham Public Library announces new hours of operation starting Oct. 1. The library will be open to the public on Mon. - Wed., 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Thurs. - Fri., 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sat., 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
