EAST LONGMEADOW
AMERICAN LEGION OPEN HOUSE
Commander Brian Tidlund of E.L.'s Gunther-Rowley American Legion Post 293 has announced an open house at their Post Home on Legion Court (off of Crane Avenue) on April 19 from 1 - 6 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend and find out more info about the benefits of an American Legion membership. The American Legion is the largest American veterans organization, representing veterans and active duty interests in Washington, D.C., and assisting their members with VA claims and benefits.
ZITI & MEATBALL DINNER
The E.L. Firefighters Assoc. will host a ziti and meatball dinner on May 1 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish, 53 Somers Rd. Adults $8, children 5 - 12, $5. A cash bar with beer and wine will be available. For tickets, contact any firefighter or stop by the Fire House.
ANNUAL MEETING
The Baptist Village Cemetery Assoc. will host its annual meeting May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Longmeadow Library.
"NO SENIORS LEFT INSIDE"
As part of our "No Senior Left Inside" open house event on May 13, we are promoting hobbies, crafts and collections residents may like to share, or perhaps you belong to a club that is welcoming new members. To reserve a table, contact Sandy at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 525-5436.
TAG SALE
The Morning Glory Walkers will conduct a tag sale at the Pleasant View Senior Center on April 25 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. You may begin bringing in items in good condition to the Senior Center on April 21 (we are closed Monday for Patriot's Day). No furniture or appliances please.
MAKE YOUR OWN STORYBOOK
On April 21 from 10:30 a.m. - noon, make your own storybook at the E.L. Library. Children of all ages are invited to drop-in and create their own book. We will have three creation stations for our budding authors to visit Build a Character, Build a Setting and Create the Action. All books will be displayed in the library. No registration required, and all materials will be provided.
GIRLS SOFTBALL
The E.L. Rec. Dept. could use a couple more 3rd/4th grade girls for this league. Season is beginning. Call the office at 525-5437 or Tim Logan, Co-Coord., at 575-1018.
CAN AND BOTTLE DRIVE
Fundraiser to help support the Spartan Boys Volleyball. April 25, 9 a.m. - noon, at the ELHS parking lot. Drop off or arrange a pick-up by calling Joe at 525-7205. Rain or shine.
SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will feature a demo of Container Gardening by Graziano Gardens following lunch on April 23 at the Pleasant View Senior Center. Noon luncheon is shrimp skewers, scampi style pasta, vegetables and mixed fruit. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for reservations.
BOOK CLUB
The next meeting of the Book Club will be on April 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St. April's book is "The Tender Bar: A Memoir" by J.R. Moehringer. The book for May's meeting on the 26th is "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult.
WOMENS AEROBICS & STRENGTH TRAINING PROGRAMS
The E.L. Rec. Dept.'s next session of women's aerobics will begin April 21 at 5 or 6 p.m; April 22 at 6 p.m. Strength training will begin April 22 at 5 p.m. Classes last 10 weeks. Come into the Rec. Dept., Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to register.
PINE KNOLL ACTIVITY CENTERS
Reminder to parents that E.L. Rec. Dept. is currently accepting registrations for the 2009 season at Pine Knoll. Those who are 4 or 5 yrs. old are eligible as well as those who complete K - 8 grades in June. A Jr. Counselor Program (CIT) is available for those completing grades 7 and 8. HAMPDEN
AUDITIONS
The Theatre Guild of Hampden announces auditions for the junior production of the 1977 Tony award winning musical "Annie." Children must be entering grades 4 - 9 in September 2009. Audition dates are April 26 from 5 - 8 p.m. and April 27 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Town Hall on Main Street. Rehearsals will take place over the summer and the production dates will be late September and early October.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a meeting of the School Committee Financial Sub-Committee on April 27. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the School's Central Office, Room #5, 127 Grassy Gutter Rd.
DIY at Storrs Library
Join us in a do-it-yourself meeting to create polymer beads and jewelry with Ashley Holt of Exclusively Yours jewelry designs. Bring a friend for book chats and snacks at DIY on April 25 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Storrs Library. Teens and tweens in grade five through high school who are interested in this unique project are welcome. DIY meets on a monthly basis. PETITE POLLUCKS, LITTLE LEONARDOS
Petite Pollucks, ages 3 - 5; Little Leonardos, ages 5 - 7. Children will explore multiple art mediums and enjoy messy projects. Each class will feature several open-ended art projects. The children will engage in individual work and group projects. All materials included. Petite Pollucks will meet on Thursdays from April 23 - June 25 from 3:15 - 4 p.m. and Little Leonardos will meet the same days from 4 - 4:45 p.m. at Greenwood Children's Center. THEATRE WORKSHOP

ONCE UPON A STORY WORKSHOP
Grades 1 - 5. "Once Upon a Story" will help children to see themselves as writers, to embrace the imagination held in the written word while at the same time becoming familiar with the fundamentals of short stories. Each week children will explore different concepts of writing, the crafts and conventions, as well as guide children to see the joy writing can hold. Enrollment is going on now. CHERRY BLOSSOM BUS TRIP
Springfield Garden Club will sponsor a bus trip to Satura Matsuri, the 28th annual Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens on May 3. Workshops and over 60 performances and events are featured. The motor coach leaves the Longmeadow Shops parking lot at 7 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. Price includes bus fare, tip and admission. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
A night to remember for friends and alumni of Our Lady of Hope School will be on May 16 in the school auditorium. This event, to mark the school's closing, will begin with 4 p.m. Mass in church. A ziti and meatball dinner will take place afterward in the school. Come and reminisce, tour the school and meet old friends. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids up to eighth grade and kids under three are free. There will be a cash bar. Tickets are available at the school, the rectory and the Hope Center. Discussion sessions for the book will meet in the Brooks Room of the library on May 4 at noon and on May 12 at 7 p.m. Private book groups are also invited to participate in this program at home and may contact Karen Demers at the library at 596-6141 ext. 127 to borrow books and discussion guides for their members.
