STROKE PREVENTION
The Pleasant View Senior will present an informational discussion on stroke prevention on Aug. 12 at 12:30 p.m. Leah Santello, a health service coordinator from Life Line Screening, will discuss risk factors for a stroke, as well as Life Line's non-invasive screening methods available to detect potential problems which could lead to stroke. PROTECTION FROM IDENTITY THEFT
Identity theft is a growing, serious crime committed against anyone no matter their age, sex, race, lifestyle or career status. Webster Bank will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center on Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. for a free educational identity theft presentation. The presenter will show you how to deter, detect and defend yourself from becoming a victim. Call the Senior Center to register at 525-5436.
COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION
Commodities will be distributed to E.L. residents on Aug. 19 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. If you have not already done so, come fill out paperwork in the office and pick up your ticket. No commodities will be given without a ticket, and paperwork must be completed prior to Aug. 19.
SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will have their Summer Reunion on Aug. 20 at the Pleasant View Senior Center. Luncheon is hamburgers, baked beans and potato salad. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for reservations.
BINGO PARTY!

"OVER THE TOP" BALLROOM DANCERS
The "Over the Top" Ballroom Dancers will be performing Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. This award winning group is made up of local school age dancers who perform regularly at hospitals and nursing homes. SUMMER READING PARTY
On Aug. 12, the Summer Reading Program Final Party will take place t Hampden Town House Auditorium, 625 Main St., from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to enjoy ice cream and games as we close out another successful

TOUR HAMMOND CASTLE
An exciting fall bus trip trip is planned for Oct. 2 to Gloucester, Mass. The bus will leave the Hampden Senior Center, 104 Allen St., at 9 a.m. A lunch at the Goucester House Restaurant on 7 Seas Wharf, a tour of Hammond Castle, deluxe coach transportation and driver's tip all for $61. FYI: the castle being a very old historic Medieval/Renaissance museum built in the late 1920s by inventor John Hays Hammond, Jr., has no elevators and is not handicapped friendly. HAPPY HOUR
The Hampden Free Public Library will host its annual Adult Summer Reading "Happy Hour" on Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m. With over 30 participants and more than 60 book reviews, we should have a lively discussion about what was good and what was not so good. DANCE REGISTRATION
Dance classes for preschoolers - teens will be offered at the Community House Dance Studio and Greenwood Children's Center Gym beginning the week of Sept. 14 - April. Parents are encouraged to register early. Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and acrobatics will be offered. The dance program will culminate with a recital. Classes meet throughout the week at both locations based upon age and grade. Registration for all dance classes begins online on Aug. 13. CARNIVAL PARADE
On Aug. 15 the Trinidad Style Carnival Parade will kick-off at 1 p.m. from State and Catharine streets. The parade will travel up State and end at Blunt Park. There will be people dressed in colorful carnival costumes, floats, Soca music, steel band, elected officials, Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Group, Native American group and many more. There will be vendors, entertainment and ethnic food in the park.

The Caribbean Festival is sponsored in part by the Springfield Cultural Council. MEMORIAL SERVICE
Aug. 23 will mark the 82nd anniversary of the executives of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1927. To commemorate the date and to build opposition to the restoration of the death penalty in Massachusetts, the Hampden County Chapter of the Massachusetts Citizens Against the Death Penalty, in association with the Springfield Diocese: Catholic Charities Agency, will be sponsoring a memorial service in Springfield in memory of the wrongful executions of Sacco and Vanzetti. The memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 23 from 5 - 7:30 p.m. at the Bishop Marshall Center of St. Michael's Cathedral.

PIANO LESSONS
Musician Ben Franklin will offer a five-week series of piano lessons for adults at the Wilbraham Public Library on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Sept. 16 - Oct. 14. The cost for the series is $50 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the library. Participants are required to provide their own portable keyboard.
