TANGLEWOOD ON PARADE
See this event on Aug. 5. Leave the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke on Prospect Street at 4:30 p.m. by motorcoach. Bring you own beverage and seating (chair or blanket). CARIBBEAN FEST
East Longmeadow's 2008 Family Caribbean Fest will take place Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Advanced tickets are $5 and $8 the day of the event. PINE KNOLL RECREATION AREA
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is issuing a last call for our Summer Activity Centers at Pine Knoll weeks of Aug. 4 and 11. Parents, if you need an activity for your child before school begins on Aug. 26, this is the place to be. Time-frame is 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. with early drop off and late pickup offered at extra cost. LUNCH & LEARN PROGRAM
The Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St., will welcome Michele Elicks from the RMV on Aug. 13 at 11 a.m., who will present a program called "Shifting Gears" about safe driving for elders. All are welcome to stay for lunch brown bag it or make a reservation a day in advance for our special "Beach Party Picnic," featuring hot dogs, macaroni salad, sliced cucumber & tomato and watermelon.
AARP MATURE DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM
On Aug. 14 and 15, the Pleasant View Senior Center will host the AARP Mature Driver Safety Program. The course runs two days, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., which includes a lunch break. Brown bag it or call the Senior Center to reserve yours. Course focus is on the aging process affecting hearing, eyesight, driver response time and how to recognize and compensate for these conditions. Cost is $10 and includes a workbook and video. You must attend both classes to get a certificate of completion. Sign up in the Senior Center office and pick up a brochure with more details. Course size limited to 30. Be advised there is no written test to pass, nor will this course have any effect on your driver's license.
COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION
Commodities will be distributed on Aug. 20 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. To qualify, you must be an East Longmeadow resident of any age and you must demonstrate need by showing documentation of your participation in any of the following programs: Welfare, AFDC, Food Stamps, Fuel Assistance, WIC, SSI, Medicaid, Veteran's Aid, Head Start or sign a statement showing your Gross Yearly Income falls at or below certain amounts. You must sign up at the Senior Center and will be given a ticket which you will keep for the year. No commodities will be given without a ticket.
HELPERS NEEDED FOR COMMODITIES
The Council on Aging is in need of people to help fill bags with groceries and bring them to client's vehicles on our Commodities day, Aug. 20. This is an ideal opportunity for students needing to fulfill their community service hours! Call the Senior Center at 525-5436 and ask for Sandy.
MOHEGAN SUN BUS TRIP
The Morning Glory Walkers are sponsoring a trip to Mohegan Sun on Sept. 9. Tickets include bus, driver's tip, $10 lunch voucher, $10 gambling voucher and Geronimo game to play on the ride. Born to be Wild Playgroup
The Storrs Library invites babies and their parents to take advantage of our programs for younger children. Come to the "Born to be Wild Playgroup" on Aug. 15 and 22 from 10 - 11 a.m. This is a drop-in program and no registration is required. Join us for a program of simple books, finger plays, songs and play. The "Born to be Wild Playgroup" is planned for parents and their children who are ages six - 30 months.
