evening of classical music
An elegant evening of classical music is being offered as a gift to the community by the East Longmeadow United Methodist Church on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. with a reception following. The Christmas Concert will include Vivaldi's Gloria performed by the adult choir and a chamber orchestra with musicians from the Boston Conservatory conducted by Garrett Saake. SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB

CARING CONVERSATIONS
A representative from All About You Professional Home Care will offer a part lecture, part discussion presentation titled "Caring Conversations" on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. The goal is to help people learn how to talk to loved ones about difficult topics, such as giving up driving privileges, accepting help or treatment, etc. Free and open to the public.

WINTER CHEERLEADING
The E.L. Rec. Dept. still has room in the Winter Cheerleading program (residents only) which begins Jan. 3 and runs through March 27, Tues./Thurs., 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Birchland. Those presently in grades 2 - 7 are eligible, as well as the cheerleaders from the fall football program. Come into the Rec. Dept., Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to register.

TOWN HALL AND LIBRARY SCHEDULE
East Longmeadow Town Hall and Public Library will be closed on Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

FAMILY HOLIDAY KARAOKE NIGHT

The Hampden Transfer Station will be open Dec. 26, 1 - 4 p.m. and will be closed Jan. 1. It will re-open on Jan. 5.

The Longmeadow Little League Board Meeting will be held Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Community House Auditorium.

magic shows

DADS & DONUTS

WATER AEROBICS CLASS
Receive great low impact exercise for the upper and lower body at Aquasize classes being held at Glenmeadow Pool for the Longmeadow Adult Center, Jan. 17 - Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. Also highly recommended for relieving pain and stiffness and improving the range of movement of joints. YOUTH WRESTLING, GRADES 5 - 8
This program is designed to introduce wrestling to athletes at the youth level. Focus will be on proper techniques, conditioning and fundamentals necessary to enjoy and be successful in the sport of wrestling. Participants will be afforded the opportunity to compete with other programs at youth events. Participants will receive complimentary wrestling headgear. Participants must provide their own wrestling shoes and kneepads. Wrestling will meet at the LHS Wrestling Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Program dates are Dec. 11 - Feb. 28. RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL "CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR"
Christmas isn't truly here until you have a chance to visit Radio City Music Hall and see the Christmas Spectacular. TEEN CENTER
Youths in grades 6 - 8 and their guests are welcome to come and enjoy a supervised evening out on Fridays from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Greenwood Center. Admission is $7 per person. All students must sign in prior to entry. School dress codes are strictly followed. Teen Center is run and staffed by area college students. KARATE - SHOTOKAN STYLE
Ages 16 and up. Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF) system includes an international standardized syllabus of kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). All instruction and certification is authentic and directly affiliated with SKIF Japan, one of the largest and finest karate organizations in the world. A white karate uniform is required for class and can be ordered through the instructor, James P. Shea, 6th Dan SKIF. Class is ongoing every two months for adults, but sign ups are welcome anytime. TRINITY CHAMBER SINGERS
The Trinity Chamber Singers will present a Candlelight Christmas Concert on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave. The Chamber Singers consists of a group of 19 professional singers under the direction of Trinity' director of music Becky Rosendahl Isaacson. They will perform a wide variety of sacred Christmas music. Secular holiday music will also be sung. Accompanying the singers will be harpist Felice Swados and flutist Janet Dixon-Metcalf. VAN SICKLE PTO BREAKFAST
The Van Sickle PTO will host a breakfast on Dec. 18 at 8:15 a.m. in the school cafeteria to pay tribute to the 2002 students that made the honor roll during the first marking period. All honor roll students and their families are invited to attend. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite prepared breakfast food item to share and celebrate together the accomplishments of these fine students.

CANDLELIGHT CELEBRATION
The Boys and Adults of the Cathedral Choir will present their seventh annual Candlelight Celebration of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Michael's Cathedral, 258 State St. This seasonal event using candlelight, readings and music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir of Boys and Adults with soloists, strings, hand bells, trumpet, and organ. The readings and music follow the journey of Advent through Christmas with the lighting of candles filling the historic cathedral with light. A festive reception will follow. All are welcome. WOMEN'S CLUB CONCERT
The Springfield Women's Club is celebrating the holidays by having Russian cellist Boris Kogan and his wife, pianist Sophie Shainskaya. They are a wonderful team and their concert is a very special treat. Join us at Reeds Landing Dec. 19. The program begins at 11 a.m. Open to the public.

CHRISTMAS AT THE COVENANT
The 20th annual "Christmas at the Covenant" will be presented Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church at 915 Plumtree Rd.
