AGAWAM "CHRISTMAS STARR!" The Children's Choir will be presenting the musical "Christmas Starr!" on Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary at Bethany Assembly of God, 580 Main St. Annette Oden has written another wonderful children's musical. This musical tells the timeless story of the birth of Jesus Christ through the eyes and talents of a bunch of young angels. Directed by Rick and Marilee Boothe, the presentation is open to the public at no charge. There will be refreshments served in the gym following the program.
CREATIVE WRAPPING CLASS Sheila Coly of Thousand Cranes Studio will demonstrate creative ways of wrapping gifts for the holidays, including the use of origami for decoration. Participants (adults only) may bring two small/medium gifts to wrap. The program will take place Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Programs must have a minimum number of participants to be held, so please visit the library or call 789-1550 ext. 109 to register.
TRIP TO MOHEGAN SUN CASINO The Agawam Golden Agers, Chapter Two is hosting a trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino on Jan. 7. The cost of this trip is $18 and includes transportation, buffet, two $10 Big Wheel bets and driver gratuity. Trip is open to the public. "A RUSSIAN FOLK FAIR" The Agawam Golden Agers, Chapter Two is hosting a trip to Mohegan Sun to see "A Russian Folk Fair" on Feb. 27. This show is based on centuries-old Russian traditions and fables and is narrated by mythical Russian characters. It includes folk musicians, singers, dancers, acrobats and human puppets. CHICOPEE BEMIS POND UNSAFE The Chicopee Parks & Rec. Dept. asks that the public stay off Bemis Pond in Szot Park for ice skating. The ponds are unsafe due to changes in temperatures, underground water streams and flowing water, officials said. The Dept. will announce when the pond is safe for recreational activity and appropriate signage will be posted.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm St. Santa and Mrs. Claus Pancake Breakfast, Dec. 15, 8 - 10:30 a.m. Cost: $4, adults; $2, children. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. The public is invited. Children will have a chance to speak to Santa and Mrs. Claus. Unwrapped toys are being collected to give to needy children in the community.
SPAGHETTI SUPPER PRICES As of Jan. 3 prices for the W.F. Davitt Aux. 625 spaghetti supper will be increased by 25 cents. Everything has gone up so much we find we have to increase also, but we are increasing our prices as little as possible. Instead of $4 for adults and seniors, it will be $4.25. Take-out orders will now be $4.50. Children under 12 will stay the same. We are so sorry for the increase but it is necessary. We want to continue our work for our veterans. Thank you for your understanding.

HOLYOKE VICTORIAN HOLIDAY CRAFTS On Dec. 15 from 1 - 3 p.m. Wistariahurst Museum presents a Victorian Holiday Craft Celebration. Recreate the decorative splendor of the Victorian era at Wistariahurst Museum. Fashion a Cathay lantern out of wallpaper scraps, make a paper angel chain or an ornament from leftover cards to hang on the tree. Decorate a Victorian keepsake box or make a toy soldier from a clothespin. Families are invited to our annual holiday celebration and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This program is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of The Friends of Wistariahurst Museum.
SKATE WITH SANTA On Dec. 15 at Fitzpatrick's Skating Rink, 575 Maple St., people can skate with Santa Claus from 3 - 4:30 p.m. Admission is free with the donation of a new book. The books are for children ages one to eight years. The books will be donated to the Shriners' Reach Out and Read program which promotes reading to and with children. Skate rental is $4 and proceeds from the skate rental will also be donated to the Shriners Hospital for Children by Facility Management Corporation (FMC). SOUTH HADLEY CHRISTMAS CONCERT Southampton Community Chorus will present Christmas Traditions on Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. at The Congregational Church of South Hadley Falls, 11 North Main St. A $5 donation is requested and refreshments will follow the concert.
SOUTHWICK CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY A children's Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 15, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Community Center at the Southwick Town Hall. Santa is expected to arrive at 2:30 for pictures. There will be crafts, movies, refreshments and a visit from Santa. The Southwick Parks and Rec. Dept. invites all to join us and have some great family fun.
SENIOR CENTER HOLIDAY CLOSINGS The Southwick Senior Center will be closed Dec. 24 - 25 for Christmas and also Jan. 1 for the New Year. We also won't be running any of our fitness classes for two weeks, Dec. 24 - Jan. 5.
SENIOR CENTER EVENTS December events at the Southwick Senior Center are blood pressure screenings from a SHINE representive by appointment on Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m.; manicures by appointment on Dec. 19; Open House at the center on Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. and Do-Re-Mi will be singing.
TRIP TO FOXWOODS Southwick Senior Center will be going to Foxwoods Casino on Feb. 11. The bus will leave the Senior Center at 7:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. Cost is $15 per person and will include $10 toward food or free buffet and $15 gambling credits. SPRINGFIELD TECH '58 REUNION Springfield Technical High School class of 1958 will be celebrating its 50th reunion on Oct. 4. A three-day event will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, located on Rte. 5 (Riverdale Rd. in West Springfield). TRINITY CHAMBER SINGERS The Trinity Chamber Singers will present a Candlelight Christmas Concert on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave. The Chamber Singers consists of a group of 19 professional singers under the direction of Trinity' director of music Becky Rosendahl Isaacson. They will perform a wide variety of sacred Christmas music. Secular holiday music will also be sung. Accompanying the singers will be harpist Felice Swados and flutist Janet Dixon-Metcalf. VAN SICKLE PTO BREAKFAST The Van Sickle PTO will host a breakfast on Dec. 18 at 8:15 a.m. in the school cafeteria to pay tribute to the 2002 students that made the honor roll during the first marking period. All honor roll students and their families are invited to attend. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite prepared breakfast food item to share and celebrate together the accomplishments of these fine students.
CANDLELIGHT CELEBRATION The Boys and Adults of the Cathedral Choir will present their seventh annual Candlelight Celebration of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Michael's Cathedral, 258 State St. This seasonal event using candlelight, readings and music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir of Boys and Adults with soloists, strings, hand bells, trumpet, and organ. The readings and music follow the journey of Advent through Christmas with the lighting of candles filling the historic cathedral with light. A festive reception will follow. All are welcome. WOMEN'S CLUB CONCERT The Springfield Women's Club is celebrating the holidays by having Russian cellist Boris Kogan and his wife, pianist Sophie Shainskaya. They are a wonderful team and their concert is a very special treat. Join us at Reeds Landing Dec. 19. The program begins at 11 a.m. Open to the public.
CHRISTMAS DINNER Caribbean American Cultural Center, 1514 State St. will hold its annual Christmas dinner Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. Entertainment will be the Caribbean Folk Singers of Springfield and a local DJ. CHRISTMAS AT THE COVENANT The 20th annual "Christmas at the Covenant" will be presented Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church at 915 Plumtree Rd. Please come and hear wonderful music of the Christmas season presented by our 30 member choir, the 10 member bell choir, 18 member brass choir, eight member worship band, 13 member men's choir and soloist. WESTFIELD "MARK TWAIN TALKS" On Dec. 15, Westfield on Weekends will present Bern Budd in his award-winning one-man show, "Mark Twain Talks Advice to Humanity" at the Westfield Woman's Club at 7:30 p.m. as a part of Dickens Days. The show is an accurate recreation of what Victorian audiences might have experienced when the beloved author of "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn" toured the world during the latter part of the Victorian Era. Advance tickets ($12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students) may be purchased at the Westfield Athenaeum and at the door. Reservations may be made by calling 552-2277. SONGWRITING CLASS Songwriters, or those who want to be, can sharpen their skills and gain inside information on the music business in a Westfield State College winter session songwriting class. Songwriters interested in any genre of music can improve their writing and playing skills by collaborating with other musicians and writers under the guidance of Professor Gregg Neikirk. The class runs 6 - 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, Jan. 2 - 4, 7-11 and 14 - 15 in Bates Hall. WEST SPRINGFIELD FOUR WEEKS OF ADVENT On Dec. 2, the first Sunday in Advent, the first candle in a Advent Wreath was lit at Grace Lutheran Church on Route 20 in West Springfield by members. The Advent wreath originated with pre-Christian Germanic people as a sign of hope in the coming spring and renewed light. The four candles in the wreath represent the four weeks of Advent and the candle in the middle represents Christ and is lit on Christmas Eve. On Dec. 9, the second candle was lit, the third candle will be lit on Dec. 16 and the fourth on Dec. 23. The candle in the center of the wreath will be lit for the two services held at Grace on Christmas Eve, at 6 and 11 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
