CANDLES FOR SALE
Friends of the Agawam Senior Center are selling candles made with soy bean no smoke comes from the candles after they are put out. A fast selling candle is the "apple pie" candle with three wicks. CHOLESTEROL TESTING
Keeping track of your cholesterol is important and to help you do this, on Jan. 9 from 9 a.m.-noon there will be a cholesterol screening done at the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Court. The screening does not require fasting and will provide total cholesterol results. Individuals are taken on a first-come basis and a donation of $5 is appreciated. To register, call 534-3698.

"LIVING AGAIN"
The grief process to the death of a loved one varies depending on individual circumstances. There are many emotions to deal with and learning how to cope with all that has happened can be very difficult. Support groups can provide you with ways to cope with your grieving and the needed support of others. A support group to help those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, no matter when, will meet Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Chicopee Council on Aging, 7 Valley View Court. TURNING 65 AND MEDICARE

GREATER SPRINGFIELD
SEMINAR
A free seminar on the use of its research library will be offered by the French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 7, in Tolland. The seminar, open to all, will be in the society's library in the Old County Courthouse, 53 Tolland Green (Route 195), half a mile north of Exit 68 on I-84. Pre-registration is not necessary. CARS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS
It's not too late to donate your car for your upcoming tax deduction, so if you wish to take advantage of the few days remaining, just call the Boys and Girls Club Car Campaign at 800-246-0493. HOLYOKE
TEEN BASKETBALL LEAGUE
The Holyoke Parks & Rec. Dept. announces sign-ups for Holyoke residents for the Teen Recreational Basketball League will take place in the department offices at City Hall on Jan. 3. Anyone interested may sign up from 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $15 for the season. Players may also register on Jan. 6 at the YMCA at 11:30 a.m. prior to the first evaluation session. A parent or guardian must be present to register. This is a co-ed league. No experience is necessary for teens aged 14 - 17.

SPRINGFIELD
HOME MODIFICATIONS LOANS
Loans (some with deferred payments) of up to $30,000 are available to make access modifications for individuals with disabilities. Homeowners can apply to HAP, the Region's Housing Partnership, for funds to construct ramps or make modifications to their bathrooms, kitchens or other rooms to allow people to safely remain in their homes. These funds are available to homeowners in Springfield, Agawam, West Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Northampton and Westfield. Call HAP at 233-1612 for more info.

CHRISTMAS SEASON EVENTS
St. Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 45 Buckingham St., will celebrate the Christmas season with the following events: Dec. 24 - Christmas Mass, 5 p.m.; Dec. 24 - Christmas Vigil and carols, 10 p.m.; Dec. 25 - Christmas day service, 9 a.m.; Dec. 31 - New Year's Vigil, 10 p.m.; Jan. 1 - New Year's Day service, 9 a.m.; Jan. 6 - Visitors' Sunday, 8 and 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend all services and events. BOAT MASSACHUSETTS
Massachusetts Boating Basics Course at Lake Lorraine, 18 Lake Dr., Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 30 (all four classes required), 6:30 - 9 p.m. Pre-registration is required with MA Environmental Police, 508-759-0002. The primary purpose of Boat Massachusetts is to foster safe boat operation through increased awareness of required safety equipment, safe boating practices and legal responsibilities. Boat Massachusetts is offered to the public at no charge. Youths 12 - 15 years of age who successfully complete the course will be issued a Safety Certificate allowing them to operate a motorboat without adult supervision, as required by state law. This course will also satisfy the state requirements for personal watercraft users who are 16 or 17 years of age. All graduates will be issued a course completion diploma and a Safety Certificate. Taking the class as a family is encouraged and has proven to be highly rewarding.

"GREASE" TRIP
St. Mary's Church, 840 Page Blvd., is sponsoring a trip to the Warner Theater in Torrington, Conn., to see "Grease" on Feb. 17. A buffet luncheon at the Cornucopia Restaurant will precede the show. Tickets are $76 per person (includes the bus, driver's gratuity, luncheon and show). The bus will leave St. Mary's parking lot at 10 a.m. and return around 6:30 p.m. We will be attending the 2 p.m. matinee. Call Sylvia to make your reservation at 594-2757.
