EAST LONGMEADOW A NIGHT OF COMEDY The East Longmeadow Educational Endowment Fund (ELEEF) presents their 13th annual Dance for Education on March 8 at Elmcrest Country Club. This year's theme, "A Night of Comedy and Dancing," will feature comedians Harrison Stebbins and Mike Whitman of the Comedy Connection in Boston. 6 p.m. cocktail hour, 7 p.m. dinner, comedy at 8 p.m., with music by Jx2 Productions 9 p.m. - midnight. POT LUCK SUPPER A pot luck supper will take place Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the E.L. Congregational Church. The speaker will be Cheri Brady. Her subject will be the "Mind-Body" Connection for Healing and Optimal Performance. She is a certified nurse practitioner, clinical hypnotherapist and therapeutic touch practitioner. She will discuss various aspects in her field as a health care provider. This event is sponsored by the Women's Fellowship.
SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will be seeing red on Feb. 21 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St., when Kay Thompson, R.N. and Redstone Rehabilitation present a Health Program on heart health and nutrition. We hope you can join us, and don't forget to wear red for heart health! Luncheon is baked fish florentine, broccoli, baked potato, and Jello. AARP TAX ASSISTANCE AARP tax aide counselors will be doing income tax processing at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St., on Mondays through April 14. Due to space limitations we are giving priority to E.L. residents this year. Out of town residents can call us for alternate site locations. Please call early for your appointment @ 525-5436, or come in to sign up, as we are now booking into March and April.
COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION Commodities will be distributed on Feb. 20 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. To qualify, you must be an E.L. resident of any age, and demonstrate need by showing documentation of your participation in any of the following programs: Welfare, AFDC, Food Stamps, Fuel Assistance, WIC, SSI, Medicaid, Veteran's Aid, Head Start, or sign a statement showing your Gross Yearly Income falls at or below certain amounts. You must sign up at the Senior Center and will be given a ticket which you will keep for the year. No commodities will be given without a ticket.
BAY PATH PRODUCTION Bay Path College will be presenting "Destry Rides Again" with a special performance for local senior groups on Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Mills Theatre located on the Bay Path campus. A limited quantity of tickets will be available at the Pleasant View Senior Center. Please call first to make certain we have received the tickets, 525-5436.
DESIGN YOUR OWN JEWELRY Sandy Merrill's popular jewelry class will take place again March 3 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. Cost for class is $2, supplies are extra. No sign up required - come on in and make something pretty!
NEW CHAIR PILATES CLASS The Pilates Center of W. Mass. is pleased to announce a new class taking place at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. This class will incorporate all the Pilates principles including core strengthening as well as balance training in a safe, effective workout. GREATER SPRINGFIELD ALL ADULTS WELCOME The New Beginnings Adult Education Program is ready to kick-off another exciting semester at Minnechaug Regional High School. Enrichment courses will be offered beginning the week of Feb. 25. TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS MEETING The next meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association is Feb. 20, 7 p.m., at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. Award-winning Wilbraham artist Deborah Padden will present a demonstration on building a portrait in oils. She has been working in portraits since 1995 and teaching since 2000. The public is welcome.
MEETING The University of the Third Age at Asnuntuck Community College, 170 Elm St., Enfield, Conn., meeting Feb. 22. Speaker: volunteer Michelle Pavia, who is a rehabilitator in the state licensed program, Wildlife Orphanage. Pavia and other volunteers care for disabled and injured wildlife. "THE VALENTINE GIFT" The Friends of Storrs Library are pleased to welcome back Longmeadow author Linda Cardillo. On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., join us as Cardillo reads her latest work, "The Hand That Gives the Rose," a novella in the anthology "The Valentine Gift." Copies of the anthology and "Dancing on Sunday Afternoons" will be available for purchasing and signing. This event is free and open to the public.
DEBT POLICE, DO THEY GO TOO FAR? What would you do if you received a call or letter from a debt collection agency? FINAL CONCERT The Longmeadow Chamber Music Society will be celebrating the final concert of their 25th season on Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow. The concert will feature Marsha Garbisch Harbison and her sisters. The "Three Sisters," who play violin, viola and flute will be joined by the husband and wife team, Boris Kogan, cello, and Sofya Shainskaya, piano.

BRONX ZOO TRIP Its April school vacation week and our travels will take us to the Bronx Zoo in NYC. Visit over 4,000 animals, many in their natural habitat. Our trip includes zoo admission, unlimited shuttle, cable car and several selected exhibits including the children's zoo, butterfly exhibit, reptile world and the Congo Gorilla Forest, plus many more. You will travel through the streets of Boston before heading to the Charles River where your "DUCK" splashes into the river for a memorable view of Boston from the water. BASEBALL REGISTRATION Please disregard any other published registration dates in the Longmeadow Parks & Rec. Brochure or elsewhere. The correct date is Feb. 26 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. and March 1 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
LONGMEADOW GIRLS SOFTBALL Girls in grades 1 - 9 are eligible to play in this spring league, which runs from April through June. Practices are one to two times per week and generally, there are one to two games a week. Registration date: Feb. 28, 7 - 9 p.m. at the Longmeadow Community House.
"SCHOOLS OUT, LET'S PLAY" There is limited space available for care of Longmeadow children in grades 1 - 6 during school vacation weeks; sign up now to ensure your spot! Children will take part in a wide variety of fun activities, field trips, outdoor play, etc. Send a bag lunch daily. You may sign up for the days of your choice. February vacation is Feb. 18 - 22. VACATION OPEN SWIM Ages 10 and older or those younger accompanied by an adult can come and swim at the heated indoor pool. Changing rooms and showers are available. Lifeguard on duty. Open swim will be Feb. 19 and 21 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Longmeadow High School Pool.
DIVING FOR BOWLING BALLS We wont really be diving for bowling balls! Kids ages eight - 12 will have 90 minutes for swimming from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. followed by bowling at Shaker Bowl in E. Longmeadow. A pizza lunch will be provided at the bowling alley before bowling. School bus transportation provided from the pool to the bowling alley. Program will take place Feb. 20. Drop off will be at the LHS pool at 11 a.m. and pick up will be at Shaker Bowl in E. Longmeadow at 4:30 p.m. Fee includes swimming, lunch, transportation, two games of bowling and shoe rental. MEN'S BASKETBALL Evening pick up games at Glenbrook Gymnasium provide the opportunity for a great work out, competition and fun. Pay for the whole season in advance or pay on a walk in basis. Players must be out of high school to participate in this program. Program meets on Thursdays from 8:30 - 10 p.m. at Glenbrook Middle School. No program on no school days.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL This program offers a high level of play for advanced participants. Teams call their own violations. Program meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Williams Middle School Gym. Registration accepted on site. No program on no school days.
AMERICAN GIRL WORKSHOP Learn all about the latest historical doll, Julie Albright, while sewing and decorating a fabric purse using jean material and felt flowers. Julie has a purse just like the one you will be making when she was growing up in the 1970's. We will also have time to enjoy refreshments and play American Girl games. At the end of the program, there will be time to purchase some American Girl books, clothing and accessories at discounted prices. Bring a favorite doll with you like! TEEN CENTER Youths in grades 6 - 8 and their guests are welcome to come and enjoy a supervised evening out on Fridays from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Greenwood Center. Admission is $7 per person. All students must sign in prior to entry. School dress codes are strictly followed. Teen Center is run and staffed by area college students. SPRINGFIELD "DIABETES 101" CLASS The Diabetes Center at Mercy Medical Center, 299 Carew St., is offering a free diabetes class on Feb. 25 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. The class will provide an overview of diabetes and discuss the treatment plan including meal planning, medications, exercise and blood glucose monitoring.
FOXWOODS CASINO & BINGO There will be a March 2 trip to Foxwoods Casino & Bingo. The bus leaves at 7:30 a.m., attendees must be arrive at 7 a.m. There will also be a two-day bus trip to Atlantic City March 9 - 10. Price includes bus, hotel, breakfast and tour. WILBRAHAM Mission Projects that Benefit Women and Children The Women's Evening Fellowship of Wilbraham United Church will present "Women in Mission," with speakers Ruth Krueger and Marlene Jobson of Christ the King Lutheran Church. This program focuses on special mission projects that specifically benefit women and children. The meeting will be Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Friendship Room of Wilbraham, United Church, 500 Main St. All women are invited.
