EAST LONGMEADOW
OPEN BURNING PERMITS
Permits for open burning are now available through May 1. They may be purchased at the Fire Station, 150 Somers Rd., Mon. - Fri. from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on Sat. starting March 13 from 9 a.m. - noon. Cost is still $5.

PLANNING BOARD CANCELLED
The Jan. 19 meeting of the E.L. Planning Board is cancelled pursuant to M.G.L. ch. 40A 11. No public hearings held under the Zoning Act can be held on primary or election day. The board will next meet on its next scheduled date of Feb. 3.

BAKED CHICKEN DINNER
At 3 Legion Court, off Crane Street, Jan. 28, 6 p.m. Cost: $9.50 per person. Menu: baked chicken, baked Idaho potatoes w/sour cream, green beans and/or carrots, garden salad, rolls and butter, carrot cake and chocolate cake, soda, tea and coffee. LAMB SHANK DINNER
The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke will again be hosting a Lamb Shank Dinner at the Pappas Fellowship Hall located at 400 Prospect St. on Feb. 7 at 11:30 a.m. Menu: complimentary wine, fruit cup, salad, lamb shank, potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, dessert and coffee. GREATER SPRINGFIELD
TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS
The January meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Assoc. will be on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. A demo by nationally-known Holyoke artist Paul Leveille will feature a pastel portrait using a live model. The meeting is open to the public.

QUABBIN RESERVATION WALK
Jan. 30, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Leader: Bill Fontaine. Meeting place: Florence Savings Bank parking lot at the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 9 in Belchertown. Registration: call Bill at 533-2153. This winter walk will take us along a gated, level paved road, through a variety of habitats on the northern end of Quabbin Reservoir. Bring appropriate footwear, hiking poles if you have them and something to eat and drink.

GENEALOGY BY COMPUTER
The Western Mass. Genealogy Society will host genealogy computer classes Jan. 21 and 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Agawam Senior Center, Main Street, Agawam. Come learn how to search your ancestors on the Web. $1 fee per class or $20 for full membership with the Western Mass. Genealogy Society. The society meets on the first Wed. of every month at the Agawam Senior Center.

HAMPDEN
BURIALS SUSPENDED
The Hampden Cemetery commission has announced that all burials in town cemeteries will be suspended until April 1 because of weather conditions.

WATERCOLOR CLASS
Joyce Emerle will be teaching an eight week watercolor class at the Hampden Senior Center on Wed. beginning Jan. 27. For info or registration call the Hampden Senior Center at 566-5588 after 10 a.m.

HAMPDEN TRAVEL CLUB

S.C. FINANCIAL SUB-COMMITTEE
There will be a meeting of the Longmeadow School Committee financial sub-committee on Jan. 19. The meeting will beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the School Committee Room, 127 Grassy Gutter Rd.

COMM. PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
The Longmeadow Community Preservation Committee will host a meeting and public hearing on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Fire Station Meeting Room.

VAN TRIPS
The Adult Center Van has scheduled a trip to the Enfield Mall on Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Reservations are accepted 24 hours ahead, but no more than one week prior to date of trip. Call 565-4150. $1 each way.

SCRAPBOOKING 101
Are you new to scrapbooking, or do you need a little extra help in designing layouts that pop? In this six week class for ages 12 and up you will create six two-page layouts for everything! REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE MEETING
The Longmeadow Republican Town Committee will host a special meeting Jan. 21 for the purpose of electing delegates to the Republican State Convention. The meeting will take place in the Greenwood Senior Center cafeteria and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Delegates will join others from around the state in Worcester on April 17 to select Republican candidates for governor and other statewide offices. BOYS LACROSSE ASSOC.
Boys in grades 3 - 8 are invited to participate. Practices are instructional and competitive games are scheduled with other youth lacrosse teams in Western Mass. and Connecticut. The program runs from the end of March through the middle of June. All participants must furnish their own gear. Registration dates are Jan. 26 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Community House. LITTLE LEAGUE ASSOC.
Ages 5 - 12. These leagues offer the best of both worlds: an opportunity to learn baseball while having fun and the chance to compete. VACATION OPEN SWIM TIMES
Participants ages 10 and older (younger participants welcome with parent supervision) can come and swim at the heated indoor pool. Changing rooms and showers available. Lifeguard on duty. The LHS pool will be open Feb. 16 and 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The fee is $7.50 per person or free with indoor season pass per day.

SOCCER CLINIC
For ages 7 - 11. Brad Miller will be offering soccer clinics for the kids at Greenwood Children's Center. Miller is the Director of Next Level Adventures and coach of the LHS Boys Soccer Team. "JERSERY BOYS" IN PROVIDENCE
Direct from Broadway, the Tony Award winning "Jersey Boys" is coming to the Providence Performing Arts Center on May 13. Coach bus transportation will leave Greenwood Children's Center at 10 a.m. for the 2 p.m. show. Orchestra seats have been reserved. SPRINGFIELD
FAMILY CONCERT
Aric Bieganek and the Royal Order of Chords and Keys will appear in concert at the Community Music School of Springfield on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. The talented and somewhat zany group is certain to delight audiences of all ages, but especially children. The program will benefit the preschool which opened in Sept. 2008 and serves 3 - 5 year olds. Tickets are $6 per person, of any age, and early ticket sales are recommended as seating is limited. SMOOTH LATIN JAZZ EVENING
Joe Velez and Creacion will present an evening of smooth Latin jazz as part of the "Bravo! Concert Series" celebrating the new Performance Hall at the Community Music School of Springfield. The music will begin at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 and tickets are $15 per person, $7.50 for children 12 and under. A series ticket is also for sale for all five Thurs. evening concerts at $50. ADULT IRISH NIGHT
Tickets are now on sale for a March 6 adult Irish Night sponsored by the Family Life Commission of Holy Cross Church, Plumtree Road. Scheduled from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m., featuring the band Irish Parish, and a menu which will feature corned beef sandwiches and desserts. This is a BYOB event; coffee will be provided. YOUTH MASS
Holy Cross Church, located on Plumtree Road, offers a Youth Mass at 6 p.m. every Sunday. Featuring contemporary music and a youth choir, this service is geared toward younger parishioners, but all are welcome.

H1N1 CLINICS
CVS will be offering the H1N1 vaccine at their Tower Square location on Jan. 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 from noon - 2 p.m. There is a $15 fee. Bring your insurance card to see if your cost is covered.

BUS TRIPS

SLEIGH RALLY
Jan. 24, 11 a.m., at Wilbraham Community Garden. The Friends of Recreation and the Wilbraham Community Garden will be hosting their first Sleigh Rally. Horses of all sizes and their drivers will be competing for the coveted blue ribbon in a series of classes. Entries will be from all over New England.
