OPEN BURNING PERMITS
Permits for open burning are now available through May 1. They may be purchased at the Fire Station, 150 Somers Rd., Mon. - Fri. from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on Sat. starting March 13 from 9 a.m. - noon. Cost is still $5.
PLANNING BOARD CANCELLED
The Jan. 19 meeting of the E.L. Planning Board is cancelled pursuant to M.G.L. ch. 40A 11. No public hearings held under the Zoning Act can be held on primary or election day. The board will next meet on its next scheduled date of Feb. 3.
BAKED CHICKEN DINNER
At 3 Legion Court, off Crane Street, Jan. 28, 6 p.m. Cost: $9.50 per person. LAMB SHANK DINNER
The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke will again be hosting a Lamb Shank Dinner at the Pappas Fellowship Hall located at 400 Prospect St. on Feb. 7 at 11:30 a.m. Menu: complimentary wine, fruit cup, salad, lamb shank, potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, dessert and coffee. TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS
The January meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Assoc. will be on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. A demo by nationally-known Holyoke artist Paul Leveille will feature a pastel portrait using a live model. The meeting is open to the public.
QUABBIN RESERVATION WALK
Jan. 30, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Leader: Bill Fontaine. Meeting place: Florence Savings Bank parking lot at the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 9 in Belchertown. Registration: call Bill at 533-2153. This winter walk will take us along a gated, level paved road, through a variety of habitats on the northern end of Quabbin Reservoir. Bring appropriate footwear, hiking poles if you have them and something to eat and drink.
GENEALOGY BY COMPUTER
The Western Mass. Genealogy Society will host genealogy computer classes Jan. 21 and 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Agawam Senior Center, Main Street, Agawam. Come learn how to search your ancestors on the Web. $1 fee per class or $20 for full membership with the Western Mass. Genealogy Society. BURIALS SUSPENDED
The Hampden Cemetery commission has announced that all burials in town cemeteries will be suspended until April 1 because of weather conditions.

REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE MEETING
The Longmeadow Republican Town Committee will host a special meeting Jan. 21 for the purpose of electing delegates to the Republican State Convention. The meeting will take place in the Greenwood Senior Center cafeteria and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Delegates will join others from around the state in Worcester on April 17 to select Republican candidates for governor and other statewide offices. BOYS LACROSSE ASSOC.
Boys in grades 3 - 8 are invited to participate. Practices are instructional and competitive games are scheduled with other youth lacrosse teams in Western Mass. and Connecticut. VACATION OPEN SWIM TIMES
Participants ages 10 and older (younger participants welcome with parent supervision) can come and swim at the heated indoor pool. Changing rooms and showers available. Lifeguard on duty. The LHS pool will be open Feb. 16 and 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The fee is $7.50 per person or free with indoor season pass per day.

FAMILY CONCERT
Aric Bieganek and the Royal Order of Chords and Keys will appear in concert at the Community Music School of Springfield on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. The talented and somewhat zany group is certain to delight audiences of all ages, but especially children. SMOOTH LATIN JAZZ EVENING
Joe Velez and Creacion will present an evening of smooth Latin jazz as part of the "Bravo! Concert Series" celebrating the new Performance Hall at the Community Music School of Springfield. Jan. 24, 11 a.m., at Wilbraham Community Garden. The Friends of Recreation and the Wilbraham Community Garden will be hosting their first Sleigh Rally. Horses of all sizes and their drivers will be competing for the coveted blue ribbon in a series of classes. Entries will be from all over New England.
