AGAWAM CATHOLIC WOMEN'S CLUB The next meeting of the Catholic Women's Club will take place on Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Father Joyce Room in the St. John's Church. Come for an evening of fun that will include the movie "Julie and Julia," popcorn, soft drinks and snacks. Guests are always welcome.
Senior Center Offerings The Agawam Senior Center will offer the following classes and activities this week: Jan. 7: 9:30 a.m. hearing tests (by appt.), quilting class, pinochle; 12:30 p.m. bridge; 1 p.m. pitch; 1:30 p.m. open art; 7 p.m. pitch, autism support group. CHICOPEE BOOK AND CLOTHING SALE Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm St., will host a book and clothing sale on Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The public is invited.
SPAGHETTI SUPPER Grace Episcopal Church, 165 Springfield St., will host a spaghetti and meatball dinner Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. Reservations: call Lorraine at 593-5291 or 592-3596. Cost: adults $8, child (1 - 5 years) $4.
SAFETY RANGE PASS CLASS The Chicopee Sprotsmens Club is hosting saftey range pass classes. Classes will run for 20 min. and are free to CSC members. Classes take place Jan. 10 and 24, Feb. 21 and 28, March 7 and 21 at Legion Post 438 on New Ludlow Road. Classes each scheduled day run from 9 - 10 a.m. Passes issued will have member lifetime validity. Range passes will be mandatory by July 2010.
SPAGHETTI SUPPER The William F. Davitt Ladies Auxiliary Post 625, located at 374 Front St., will host their spaghetti supper on Jan. 7. We will be serving from 4 - 6 p.m. Cost is $4.50 for adults and seniors; $4 for children under 10 and $4.75 for take-outs. We serve you, no waiting, all food made by the Ladies Auxiliary.
WINTER YOGA CLASSES The Parks & Rec. Dept is offering two eight-week yoga classes for newcomers or returnees. Gentle/beginners yoga classes which is deep breathing and yoga stretching for the beginner or next level yoga students starts Jan. 13 and takes place on Wed., 6 - 7:15 p.m. Moderate/intermediate classes for the more experienced are Mon. from 6 - 7:15 p.m. All classes take place at the new Chicopee Comp Fitness Center. Detailed instructions are given for all physical postures in the class, including modifications to increase the intensity of the workout or accommodate limitations in flexibility. "CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES" Join the Chicopee Senior Travel Club on May 4 for a trip to the Garde Arts Center in Groton, Conn., to see a new musical comedy "Church Basement Ladies." Before the show enjoy a delicious lunch at the Groton Inn. Cost includes bus, driver tip, lunch and show. Call the club at 534-3698, Mon.-Fri., from noon - 3 p.m.
VOLUNTEER TREASURER NEEDED A volunteer is needed to be responsible for all fiscal transactions and accounting for the Friends of Chicopee Senior Citizens Inc. This person electronically tracks all accounts held by the Friends. The treasurer makes a monthly report for the Friends. The Friends are a 501c (3) organization that is raising funds for a new center, helps the Council on Aging as well as assists the special needs of individual older adults. DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP The next meeting will be on Jan. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. Diane Weston, R.N. will provide info on ways to manage your diabetes, help you with your diet plan, provide instruction on the use of a glucometer, info on research and new developments and answer questions you may have. New members are always welcome and for more info call Jared at 534-3698. This program is offered free of charge, although donations are welcome.
CHOLESTEROL TESTING Keeping track of your cholesterol is important and to help you do this, on Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. - noon, there will be a cholesterol screening done at the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. The screening does not require fasting and will provide total cholesterol results. Individuals are taken on a first-come basis and a donation of $5 is appreciated. To register, call 534-3698.
MOHEGAN SUN A trip to Mohegan Sun, Jan. 13, leaving from American Legion Post 452, 37 Exchange St. Cost is $20. Leaving at 7:15 a.m. For more info call Dot at 788-6835. "LIVING AGAIN" A support group to help those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, no matter when, will take place on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Chicopee Council on Aging, 7 Valley View Ct. HOLYOKE NRA BASIC PISTOL SAFETY COURSE An N.R.A. Basic Pistol Safety Course will be offered at the Holyoke Revolver Club Indoor Range, 431 West Cherry St., on Jan. 16 from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. This is a hands on shooting experience teaching the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. A National Rifle Assoc. Basic Pistol Course Certificate as well as a State of Massachusetts Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. SPRINGFIELD MEATLOAF DINNER The Hungry Hill Center will serve a meatloaf dinner on Jan. 12 and a pork dinner on Jan. 27. Tickets are $2 and can be obtained at the Hungry Hill Center. Reservations are required one week prior to the luncheon and can be made by calling the center at 733-9411.
MEETING There will be a meeting of the Hungry Hill Neighborhood Council on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Hungry Hill Center, lower level of Our Lady of Hope Church. A representative from El Pilon Restaurant will attend this meeting to discuss a request to extend the liquor license from midnight to 2 a.m. Deputy Chief John Barbieri from the police dept. and Jim Leyon from the mayor's office will be at this meeting to hear residents suggestions, concerns, etc. All area residents are welcome to attend; refreshments will be served.
BLOOD PRESSURE READINGS Chicopee Visiting Nurse Assoc. will have a nurse at the Hungry Hill Center on Jan. 11 from 9 - 11 a.m. Cholesterol screening along with blood pressure readings will be offered. This is a free service to area seniors.
ATTACKING YOUR CLUTTER The public is invited to a free seminar featuring Ellen Shaw-Smith, LICSW, from the Center for Well-Being, who is an expert counselor to those who have clutter issues, on Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. at Wachogue Congregational Church, 80 Arvilla St. No reservations required. WESTFIELD TRIATHLON CLASSES Triathlon season is quickly approaching and now might be a good time to start a strength-training program. The Westfield YMCA is offering a pre-season strength training class for triathlons. WEST SPRINGFIELD COIN CLUB The W.S. Coin Club will meet Jan. 10 in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 214 Elm St. A presentation and discussion will include facts about British Condor Tokens.
