EAST LONGMEADOW
DONATIONS SOUGHT
The Friends of E.L. Public Library's annual book and bake sale will take place in the Community Room on April 10 from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. The library is accepting donations of hard cover, paperback and children's books. Collectable books are also welcome. No textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines, condensed books or books that are moldy or musty. Bake sale will benefit the Children's Dept. SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATES
The public is invited to meet with the top superintendent candidate finalists March 24 - 26 from 3 - 5 p.m. at the library in Birchland Park Middle School. The finalists will be announced the School Committee meeting on March 22.
ST. PATRICK'S DINNER
The American Legion, 3 Legion Ct., will host a St. Patrick's dinner on March 25 from 6 - 7 p.m. Menu: corned beef with cabbage, carrots, potatoes, salad, rolls and butter, soda, tea and coffee, and oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies and brownies for dessert. ELHS 50TH BIRTHDAY MEETING
The next meeting is scheduled for March 29 at ELHS in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. We will discuss plans for several upcoming events, including a golf tournament tentatively scheduled for Aug. 30, and an Oldies Dance, date to be determined. At this meeting, we will start forming committees for the Open House, Gala, Carnival and the float for the Fourth of July Parade. Anyone interested in finding out more about the celebration is welcome.
DOG LICENSES
E.L. residents are reminded that dog licenses for 2010 are now available at the Town Clerk's office in Town Hall. All current dog licenses expire on March 31. If not renewed by March 31, you will be subject to a $10 penalty. Dog license fees are $10 for spayed/neutered dogs and $15 for dogs that are not spayed/neutered. Proof of rabies vaccination is required on all dogs six months or older. Proof of spaying/neutering must be provided when licensing the dog for the first time. Call the Town Clerk's office at 525-5400 ext. 1004 if not sure when your dog's current rabies shot expires. If you want your tag delivered, provide a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will mail it to you.
MASON LODGE OPEN HOUSE
The Meadows Lodge of Freemasons will host an open house on March 27 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Men interested in learning more about the fraternity are encouraged to come by. The lodge is located at 43 Chestnut St. Questions? Call Ken White at 537-1572.
BIRCHLAND PARK BOOK SALE
Due to an overwhelming number of book donations, Birchland Park Middle School will be hosting a second used book sale on March 27 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. There is still a great selection for all!
FIT KIDS & WEE ONES
The E.L. Rec. Dept. reminds parents who have children ages 1 - 3 and 3 - 5 that there is still room in the "Wee Ones and Fit Kids" program at Attain on Denslow Road. Program is Tues. or Thurs. from 10 - 11 a.m. at a cost of $5/day. Children are involved in activities in rolling, balance, hopping, jumping, walking, running, kicking, catching, skipping and throwing. RED SOX BUS TRIPS
The E.L. men's softball league, in conjunction with the Rec. Dept., has scheduled three Red Sox bus trips to Fenway Park: June 16 against Arizona; Aug. 2 against Cleveland and Sept. 3 against Chicago. Price is $98, includes ticket, trans., box lunch. INTOWN SOCCER REGISTRATION
The E.L. Rec. Dept. reminds parents that the deadline to register your child for the intown soccer league is March 26 by 4 p.m. Late fee of $10 begins on March 29.
SENIOR ABATEMENT APPLICATION
The last day to return your application for one of the seven positions regarding the Senior Tax Abatement program for the town of E.L. will be April 2. Applications can be found in the Selectmen and Clerk's office at the Town Hall or at the Council on Aging at 328 N. Main St. If you have any questions, contact the Clerk's office at 525-5400 ext. 1000.
SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB

The Philip Michael Lauro II Discovery Room at Storrs Library will host a Mother & Daughter Book Group on April 6 from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. The group is open to students in grades 6 - 8 and meets monthly. 'PEOPLE ARE TALKING'
The LCTV show "People Are Talking," about hot topics in town, features Karen Michelman and Carl Sturgis talking about the Adult Center and the library. Panelists Jim Jones, Winnie Hopfe, Ellie Tyson and Eleanor Stolar ask about the survival of these services given looming budget cuts. Show is being aired on Mon. at 6 p.m., Tues. at 9:30 a.m., Thurs. at 6:30 p.m. Topics under consideration for future shows include the clay tennis courts, the high school and other topics suggested by you. FACULTY VS. SENIORS GAME
Come to the Falcon Gym on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. as the senior class takes on the Minnechaug faculty and staff in the annual Seniors vs. Faculty Basketball Game.
