CHICOPEE Chicopee Police officer Mark Gilbert was promoted to the rank of captain during a ceremony in the office of Mayor Michael Bissonnette on Oct. 31. Administering the oath was Thomas Charette, acting police chief.
"Mark Gilbert is one of the few Medal of Valor winners for his service and heroism. I think he'll continue his tremendous service as captain," Bissonnette said.
When asked how it felt to be promoted, Gilbert replied, "It feels great!"
