CHICOPEE – When patrons walk into the McDonald’s at 777 Meadow St., they probably don’t expect the rising star behind the counter.

Angelo Perez, one of the company’s 1.8 million employees, is a semifinalist in the Voice of McDonald’s competition. He’s hoping to garner enough public votes by the Dec. 2 deadline to make it to the finals.

“The Voice of McDonald’s is doing an excellent job helping singers achieve their dreams ... I really appreciate what [it] has been doing for me,” he told Reminder Publications.

The Voice of McDonald’s was created in 2006 for McDonald’s employees around the world. Bridget Cordero, account coordinator at McDonald’s said, “The corporation hopes to teach employees skills that will last a lifetime in whatever they choose to do.”

Perez has always considered singing as a career. He admitted, “singing has been my passion since the age of 4.” He believes that his voice is a talent that God has given him.

Perez practices singing daily for at least one hour. He has improved his talent with the help of vocal coaches and the classes for a major in Music at Holyoke Community College. “When it comes to singing, I take it very seriously,” Perez explained.

His lifelong desire is to share his voice with the world. For the competition, he hopes to win so he can gain experience within the music industry.

If Perez is voted to be one of the top three U.S. finalists, he will go on to sing at the McDonald’s 2014 Worldwide Convention. There are two rounds in the final competition where contestants sing on a stage in front of McDonald’s owners and operators. The winner receives an award of $25,000 with second, third, and fourth place getting smaller cash prizes.

The public can vote at www.voiceofmcdonalds.com.
