CHICOPEE -- The Christmas season began in Chicopee on Dec. 3 with the official arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the municipal Christmas trees.
Santa arrived by fire truck and was accompanied by Chicopee resident Ariel LaFreniere, who is the reigning Elite U.S.A. Junior Miss Massachusetts Queen. Local Girl Scouts sang Christmas songs until the moment came at which LaFreniere threw the switch to light the tree. Hundreds of people gathered for the event and for activities in the former library building.
