Senior Center asks for volunteers to pass out baskets

SOUTH HADLEY Volunteers are needed to sort food on Dec. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Senior Center on Dayton Street. Volunteers will also be needed on Dec. 10 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. to pack and distribute the Christmas baskets. Please call Marilyn Ishler at 536-7742 if you are able to help.

The South Hadley Council on Aging is coordinating the Christmas basket program for the 19th year. The program is looking for stews, canned meats, paper goods and cleaning supplies to go with the cereals, soups, pasta and vegetables. Monetary contributions ma be sent to the senior center at 45 Dayton Street. Local food gift cards may also be donated in small denominations.

Food collection points are in all the South Hadley schools, the Board of Health at Town Hall, Main Library on Gaylord Street and the Senior Center.

There are already over 80 families on the Christmas Basket list and more requests and referrals are anticipated with the increased cost of heating.
