SOUTH HADLEY Imagine if you can, a time and place when there are no private toilets and everyone must use expensive pay toilets provided by the Urine Good Company until there is a rebellion led by Bobby Strong, the assistant custodian at the poorest urinal in town.
And while you're imagining all that, make everyone sing.
"Urinetown," the successful Broadway musical comedy, is coming to South Hadley High School July 26 through July 28 with three performances at 7 p.m. Staged by Seat of Our Pants Productions, the musical comedy will be a fund-raiser to support the Harlequins Drama Club at South Hadley High School.
Cast member Stephanie Rainaud told the Chicopee Herald that once she saw the play, "I knew I had to do it."
She said that although the show's title can put some people off, it intrigues others. With its original New York City run, "Urinetown" was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won three.
Rainaud plays the role of "Little Sally," whom she described as the "quasi-narrator" of the show that "always brings the show back to earth."
What also impressed Rainaud about the show is its score.
"It incorporates every genre of music, " she said.
A live band will accompany the cast's singing, she added.
This is the fifth production of Seat of Our Pants productions, which have been producing a fund-raiser for the high school drama club since 2003.
Rainaud said the production has attracted cast members from all over Western Massachusetts and range in skill from dedicated amateurs to professionals.
Tickets prices are $10 in advance, $12 at the door for adults and $8 in advance, $10 at the door for seniors, children, and students with identification. For advance tickets, call 297-6768.
