Women celebrated

The Springfield Women's Commission recently hosted their 10th Annual International Women's Day celebration at City Hall. This year's four recipients Dr. Annie Watson, Sister Joyce Wise, Ellen Albano and Natalia Munoz were described as "wonderful and phenomenal women" by Dr. Gloria Williams, principal of Freedman Schools and this year's honorary chairwoman.

"Women have come together and worked together ... to achieve equality," City Councilor Kateri Walsh said, "from Elizabeth Cady Stanton to Hillary Clinton."

The Freedman choir of girls performed a song for those in attendance before speeches and recognitions were made.
