Old Post Road Orchestra presents 'Mozart and Friends'

Come join the Old Post Road Orchestra for an evening of musical selections from "Mozart and Friends" at the Wilbraham Middle School on April 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of conductor Neal Schermerhorn, Liza Munk, a student from the Community Music School of Springfield, and the Old Post Road Orchestra (OPRO) will perform the Mozart Oboe Concerto. Other selections include Mozart's "Ave Verum" and Strauss' "The Blue Danube Waltz." The concert is free and open to the public, funded in part by a Wilbraham Community Association grant.

Munk, a high school student from East Longmeadow, has been playing music since the age of four and the oboe for eight years. She has been a student at the Community Music School of Springfield since 2003 and currently studies with Joanne Nelson Unczur. Munk's impressive r sum includes performances as a first chair oboist in the UMass Honors Band as well as the East Longmeadow High School Concert Band.

Recently, she performed in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Festival and is recommended for the Music Educators National Conference All-Eastern Festival. Munk is co-captain of the cross country team and debate team, and a conductor of the pit band. Please join us for a wonderful performance by this very talented young lady.

The Old Post Road Orchestra, a volunteer community orchestra based in Wilbraham, was established in 1986 by cellist Malita Brown, and rehearses at the Stony Hill Elementary School. This orchestra has grown to become a 50-plus member ensemble, providing concerts in various local communities throughout the year.

The orchestra's performances feature both classical and pops. Its mission is to provide quality orchestral music to Wilbraham and the surrounding communities as well as to offer an opportunity for musicians of all ages to participate in a community orchestra.
