In 2007, the contract that provided Basic Life Support level service (EMTs) from American Medical Reserve (AMR) at a cost of a little over $50,000 to East Longmeadow and Hampden annually expired. That year, a new contract was negotiated that ensured Advanced Life Support level service (Paramedics) at no cost to either town. Vinny and Jack Villamaino, the chairs of the Boards of Selectmen in Hampden and East Longmeadow, respectively, recently jointly renegotiated the contract with the same terms for another three years, continuing through fiscal year 2013.

"Working out a deal with AMR that doesn't cost either town for that service shows that we can successfully find ways of maintaining services without increasing to the taxpayer burden," Vinny said.
