|The employment problem must be solved primarily on a national level. |
Massachusetts probably could grow more food locally, but I suspect we no longer have enough land area to grow our own food. Farms also provide more plants, which helps the air, temperature, and wildlife. It would help employment during the summer if farms hired local people instead of migrant labor from other countries.
Corporate executives will move any job that requires people to a cheap labor country if they can do it. Precision machining evolved form plain old machining, which has now moved to other countries. The precision machining will be next. Without some kind of intervention, the minute an occupation pays a decent wage it will be exported to a cheap labor country.
The main activity of our local politicians has been grinning and handshaking with the national politicians who created this sorry situation.
