At the time of the tornado, I lived in West Springfield, one of the communities hard-hit by the tornado. Luckily, my house did not sustain any damage, and I did not sustain any injuries. However, within an hour of the hurricane "hitting" my hometown, I received a call from my insurance company, AMICA-Automobile Mutual Insurance Company of America, asking whether I was okay, whether my house had sustained damage and whether I needed to file a claim.
I know, from having filed several previous claims with AMICA (a house fire in 1985 and water in the basement due to a sump pump failure about 30 years later, that AMICA treats its customers fairly, promptly and with compassion. Some insurance companies balance service to their customers and "the bottom line" so that all feel like winners.
