Many of us today think voting is the most important right Americans have, yet less than half of us voted in the last presidential election!
Your one vote can make a difference. In our United States, one vote cast in 1776 made English the official language, instead of German.
One vote elected Thomas Jefferson President in 1800.
One vote made Texas one of the United States in 1845.
One vote decided on war with Mexico, with the result that five states were added to the United States in 1846.
One vote gave the United States the state of Alaska in 1867.
One vote gave Rutherford B. Hayes the presidency of the United States in 1876.
One vote in each of the voting districts in California reelected President Wilson in 1916.
One vote made Tennessee the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote in 1920.
