I have had the privilege of serving these last six years on the Longmeadow Board of Selectmen. It has been an incredibly challenging time, but because of our hard work and our commitment to our town, we have successfully met many challenges together.
I am a candidate for re-election to the Longmeadow Select Board. Prior to joining the Select Board, I spent one year on the School Committee (I was a member of the Finance Sub-Committee) and two years on the Finance/Appropriations Committee, where we actually created the budget prior to the Charter changes.
During my 25 years here in Longmeadow, I have been active in the community. I have coached various sports (football, soccer, baseball, and basketball) served as past President to the Center School PTO, President of the Longmeadow High School PAC, was a member of the Center School Council for two years.
I've been very involved during my tenure on the Select Board. I do my homework, and am well prepared to discuss the matters at hand, and have an open mind to different points of view.
Over the next three years and beyond, Longmeadow will be facing tough fiscal times. While we are in the midst of hiring a new Town Manager, we still have to deal with an aging infrastructure (water and sewer, and town buildings) in need of repair, limited revenue sources, and an uncertain economy that hampers long term budget forecasting. It will be a challenge for everyone. Experience is what is needed now.
With that said, I firmly believe that the "glass is half full." I believe that we have an opportunity to continue to look into more efficient ways to deliver services to our residents, preserve our remarkable education system and look for creative ways to implement programs in our departments.
Longmeadow is a great place to live. We need a Select Board that looks out for the whole of the Town. If re-elected, I will continue to work for the betterment of Longmeadow, all of Longmeadow. You have my promise.
I humbly ask for your vote on June 12.
