It is with the deepest gratitude that I write to our community at large to thank all of you for your immediate response to our recent pleas for food for The Community Survival Center’s emergency food pantry. Individuals, businesses, churches, schools, clubs and other organizations have brought us donations of food or have sent monetary donations for the purchase of food. The emergency food pantry now looks like a food pantry once again.
I wish that I could say that we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief and move on to other concerns, but unfortunately that is not the case. Hunger does not take a break, and therefore neither can we. Families continue to struggle to put food on their tables on a daily basis, and here at the center we continue to see an increase in requests for food assistance.
Although there is now food on our pantry shelves, they are not as full as they need to be, especially at this time of the year when the heating season and the holiday season are upon us. During the months of November and December, which are always our busiest months in the pantry, we anticipate serving more families than we did last year in our holiday meal program and in our three other emergency food programs. Our need for donations of food remains constant.
You, our loyal and generous community, have always been there when the center has needed your help, and we know that you will continue to provide us with what we need to take care of our friends and neighbors who come to the center in times of crisis. Once again, we thank you for your gifts of food, for your monetary donations, and for joining us in our commitment to ease the suffering of those among us who do not have enough to eat.
